Brew Will Not Start
Your coffee maker does not initiate a brew.
Faulty Power Supply
Check to make sure the display is illuminated. If there are no lights on the coffee-maker, it has no power. Press the Power button, and if that doesn't work, try a different outlet. Otherwise, try replacing the power cord.
Empty Water Reservoir
Refill the water reservoir, and reselect your brew size and type to restart the brew cycle.
Closed Drip Stop
Check to make sure the drip stop is open. If the machine beeps five times, either the Drop Stop is closed or the water reservoir holds insufficient water.
Misaligned Brew Basket
Remove the brew basket and reinsert it by aligning it with the rails, then slide it into the brewer until it clicks into place.
Cleaning Needed
If all else fails, run the Clean Cycle.
Brew Basket Dripping After Brew
Your coffee maker drips after use.
Open Drip Stop
Once the brew cycle is complete, move the drip stop to the closed position (denoted by the image of a water droplet with a slash through it) before removing your brewing vessel.
Overflowed Cup, Travel Mug, or Carafe
Brew basket is overflowing and water and grounds are coming out the sides.
Incorrectly-Sized Cup
Make sure cup or carafe is the right size.
Cup: 9.5 oz
Travel mug: 14 oz
Half carafe: 19 oz
Full carafe: 38 oz
If you need to install a replacement carafe lid, refer to this guide.
Cleaning Needed
If spilling persists despite correct vessel size, then perform a Clean Cycle, using coffee-maker descaling solution.
Water Reservoir is Leaking
Your machine is leaking coffee or water from the brew basket.
This May Not Be a Problem
If water drips from the reservoir when it is removed, this is normal, don’t worry. Simply use a dry cloth to wipe away the water droplets from the machine after it has cooled.
Faulty Tube Connectors
If the coffee maker is leaking coffee or sputtering, inspect the tube connectors for leaks. If you find the leak is in an elbow, clean the surfaces before you replace it. If the tube connector leaks, replace both the tube and the elbow so that you can be sure the pieces will both fit together properly.
Overfilled Water Reservoir
Fill the water up to, but not exceeding, the Max Fill line. If necessary, replace the water reservoir lid.
Sediment in Coffee
Unwanted sediment appears at the bottom of your brewed coffee.
Finely Ground Coffee in Permanent Filter
To reduce the amount of sediment in your coffee, try using a slightly coarser grind or a paper filter.
Excess Grounds in Brew Basket
If you’re still finding sediment in your coffee, make sure the brew basket did not overflow. If there are too many grounds in the brew basket, the grounds will flow into an overflow channel designed to make sure overflow is captured in the brew vessel.

Maker will not make a full pot. Runs for about 20 seconds and shuts off. It doesn’t appear to be clogged up. You can keep hitting the button every time it goes off and eventually the pot will be made. Tried unplugging to reset and that didn’t work. Maker is about 6 months old.

This happened to me this morning. Brewed for 10 seconds, then beeped and shut off. Couldn’t find a solution online and since I’ve always been one to push any button just to see what it does, I decided to brainstorm. This is what I’ve come up with and it is working well for me.
Inside the water reservoir, at the bottom, is a small plastic bubble that feeds the air/water exchange, so as to avoid vapor lock. On the top of that bubble is a very small, thin flap. I noted that this flap was not readily flapping to allow water to flow from the reservoir to the coffee maker. I carefully took a sharp knife and moved the flap so it is now in a half open position.
I ran 3 pots of plain water through to test my theory and it works like a charm. 2 pots of coffee later, and it’s still a success.

Thanks Cindy P for your solution I now get a full coffee pot of water. I had this for almost a year and was getting ready to throw it literally away. I brew coffee for family and friends so a half of pot was really laughable.

Brandi R -
We had this same issue. Unscrewing the bottom and plugging the wires for 30 seconds and then plugging them back in fixed it. We realised what was triggering this was when we would accidentally let the water run out while in the midst of a brew cycle. Easy fix if you have a screw driver and 10 minutes, but you'll want to unplug the machine, remove the water tank and lay a towel down bc it will leak out water. When laid on its side.

I had the same issue, so I called tech support. The guy told me to remove the reservoir, fill it up to the max fill line with water, and place it back on the brewer for 10 seconds. After the 10 seconds, remove the reservoir and press the valve in the middle of the “bubble” 2 times and replace the reservoir. This solved the problem. WHY this isn’t listed in the Ninja troubleshooting guide, I’ll never know.
Hope this helps!

I have run the cleaning cycle 3 times with vinegar and water, but still the light is on. I have previously used descaler, but the same problem occurred. There is also a long solid beep at the end of a regular coffee cycle (just since the light went on). I only use bottled water.
Linda McDonald - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Brew basket keeps overflowing, even if I only run water through. I’ve cleaned the coffee pot more than once to no avail. It’s obviously not an issue with too much coffee or finely ground coffee if it continues to overflow with no coffee in the filter. I haven’t even had it 6 months!
KatRuthNov26 - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Brew basket keeps overflowing, even with no coffee in the filter. Have cleaned the machine multiple times, both with vinegar and water and a rescaled, to no avail. Too much coffee or too finely ground coffee obviously isn’t the issue since it overflows without coffee added. I only use bottled water, so that isn’t the problem, either. Haven’t had the machine 6 months and can’t get a single cup of coffee!

Thanks Cindy P for your solution on December 3rd. Moving the thin plastic flap over finally gave me a full coffee pot of water. I’ve had this for about a year and was getting ready to get rid of it. Have not used it in a long time just got tired of inviting family and friends for coffee and got only an half a pot of water. It was collecting dust. Thought I tried researching and finally came across your solution. Ninja customer service service had no solutions. Again, thanks.

Got this 2 days ago, did the clean cycle x 2 before use, but it only went 1/2 carafe both times, even when the setting was full. I thought maybe that was normal for clean. But first full pot I brewed kept stopping after a couple of minutes and I had to keep pushing the button to restart. I came to this forum, and noticed the frequent advice to clean again. I did a total of 3 cycles, brewed normally, a complete carafe as expected. I highly suggest doing this often, doesn't hurt it any, and cleans your coffee maker, I love the coffee from this Ninja, by the way!!

I’ve had the same problem with it working for about 30 seconds then beeping and stopping. This is my second Ninja Coffee Bar; the 1st one did the same thing, both after about 6mo of use. We clean it regularly, we’ve used descaling solution and vinegar and water. Frankly, I think there is something wrong with these machines. I like the look of them and the coffee they make, but I’m tired of all the maintenance and them not working after 6ish months. I’m getting a different machine. Now that I see other people have the same problem, I’m even more convinced they are junk.

Hi,
I have had my ninja coffee maker for almost 2 years now. I started having problems about 2 months ago with it needed to be cleaned every few days! We have well water so thought that was the problem…my husband bought Third Wave Water mineral supplement & we added that to a gallon of distilled water. We use that exclusively for the coffee. Works great…no cleaning light coming on every few days…and the coffee tastes better!
Now, however, just noticed this week that when I set the coffee for the travel size it seems to take forever to brew and it is not filling up to the amount it used to. I looked in the basket , but don’t see a plastic flap as Cindy stated.
Is anyone else having this problem? I like this machine because of the ease of making just one cup, or a full pot when the whole family is over!
Thanks for any help!
Nancy

Just heard from the Ninja website customer service and troubleshooting the issue of the unit stopping after 20-30 sec etc…. The tech said to remove the reservoir and depress both the spring on the water container, and depress the area in which the water drains (on the coffee unit itself), holding each a few seconds. This removes any trapped air in the internal line. (Other troubleshooting included, cleaning, adjusting reservoir, adjusting basket, etc., but this air bubble issue actually worked). Hope this helps.
Kelly - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Thanks Kelly- I tried this and my Ninja started working normally again. I’ve brewed 10 straight pots after using this tip without issue. This seemed to happen when I took the reservoir out to clean it and placed it back in the slot empty… so it makes sense that this whole problem has to do with the design flaw that can trap air in the water line and make the Ninja quit. I think it brews the water already in the pre-heat section, but then when it goes to pull in more water it detects air and quits- which is what everyone has been experiencing. Hopefully this is just a simple trick to keep me from going crazy.

We had our Ninja coffee bar 3 days. It worked fine for three days but then when put on half carafe brew it would only brew for a few minutes and then stop. I have to restart it (press classic brew “on” again) to get it to finish the brew. Based on numerous other similar comments it seems like this is a product defect which needs to be addressed by Ninja.

Make sure the only button your pressing once you do all of thee above is the classic brew button, first if you have run the clean cycle properly then all should be fine if not, take off the water reservoir fill with water and press your finger underneath there's a spring to see if water pours out of the bottom do this over the sink, making sure there's still enough water in there to make a mug of coffee, then hold the black button on the machine that the water reservoir sits on hold for 20 seconds then clean up any water this is burping the machine replace water reservoir, place a mug on the machine turn dual to mug press classic and you should get a full mug of coffee also make sure the basket and filter are clean both come off I've had ever single one of everyone's issues and have managed to fix it also only use white vinegar to clean

If you’re handy around the house. This worked for me!! Take apart machine from the bottom. There are 2 solid pieces that have to removed. You’ll find that where the water heater is, when you locate that take the top of it and then you will find calcium buildup. Pour white vinegar in the whole. You’ll have to stop the wholes from where the water goes into the brew basket. Let sit overnight and then run the clean cycle again 5 times and bam my coffee maker is working like a charm!!

Mine just started doing the same thing. All of a sudden the regular brew button wouldn’t work, but all the others would. After jiggling it, unplugging it, I got it to work. Then it happened again, and none of the buttons would work except ice or rich. Jiggling/uplugging didn’t work, so I cleaned it, which worked for a few days. Now it’s happened again. Not sure I should have to clean it every few days. Just waiting for it to shut down completely.

Mine stopped working yesterday at 2 years old. Can’t delay brew or regular brew. Called them and they hid behind the fact that there is only a one year warranty. My Ninja started not brewing full traveller cups, and then when I tried to clean it, it would shut off after about 45 seconds. I read the advice here and it seems the issue was air caught in line. As recommended by a few posters here, I figured it out by holding down the spring mechanism at the bottom of the carafe (while filled with water) for about 8 seconds, then holding down the corresponding spring mechanism where the carafe connects to the machine. Voila! It ran a full clean cycle and I’m now getting full cups of coffee again. I hope this helps at least some of you.
Tabitha - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Coffee brewing stops mid cycle? My brother’s girl was making a travel mug for work each morning and using “drip stop”… leaving water in reservoir and in filter. This causes air/water bubbles in internal hoses. To fix just dump reservoir completely and make sure that the little flapper in tank is in good shape and also press and release the spring loaded bottom valve making sure it works to full extension. Next unplug machine and only when fully cooled down turn it upside down(without the reservoir)…press the black trigger where the reservoir normally rests allowing any water caught in machine to drain into your sink. This will get rid of air bubbles in the vacuum lines. I then ran test pots and travel mugs by making sure only to fill reservoir with exact amount of water needed(reset dial from cup to pot or other…each use). Reservoir must empty! I don’t drink coffee and did this for my Mom. Best wishes and Happy Brewing!!

my Ninja takes forever to brew a cup. I have cleaned it very well and nothing. I am returning it to Bb&B and when the new model CP301 comes out I will get that one. I can’t believe how long the coffee takes to drip out of the filter even after the cycle has finished the basket still has coffee in it that has not steeped through the filter. The filter is clean and still doing the same thing.

My alarm is going off, and it won't let me do anything. I've taken all of the components apart and put them back together; everything is aligned properly and the drio stop is open. The reservoir is full and the brew basket is seated. None of the buttons work, no matter what setting I select - not even “clean.”

Whenever I try to make a brew of coffee, the machine will run for about 10-15 seconds, brewing coffee and then it will stop itself, failing to finish brewing any selected cup size. I wanted to see if maybe this was because the machine needed cleaning, but after trying to run a cleaning cycle, I discovered it will shut itself off within 10-15 seconds as well. By shut off, I mean that it will beep and stop filtering water as if a brew is complete. I’m not sure how to fix this.

When my very expensive Keurig did the same thing…( kept shutting off before the Brew was done)…I googled the problem and only one man had the solution and as silly as it sounded...IT WORKED.
So, now my Ninja is doing the same thing and I've read and done all suggestions on this site to no avail.
I decided to try this mans fix for the Keurig on my Ninja and low and behold…IT WORKED.
Simply, unplug the machine and turn it over in your sink, so the top of the machine is resting in the sink. Wait a few minutes , turn it right side up, plug it in and see what happens. Mine is working fine …!
You may want to do this if none of the other suggestions worked. I have NO IDEA what this does to make it work again, but he was so right.

Ran a clean cycle 2 days ago. Twice cause the light came right back on. Today it started only brewing a half a cup of coffee then giving the something is wrong beeps before shutting off when I tried to brew a classic cup. Shut if off, unplugged for 2 hours still did same thing. Ran a clean cycle again of just water and it still did it. Thought what the !&&* and tried a rich brew worked fine. Ok. Tried the classic brew again this time it worked but clean light came on again. Why???? Coffee isn't exactly cheap and neither is vinegar if you have to use a bottle every day to clean a coffee pot. I've only had the thing a year. About to go back to a Keurig.

Easy fix to my coffee bar, like others my coffee bar would shut off during brewing after about 10 seconds. After checking everything twice and calling Ninja I came up with something easy and simple and it worked great. After coffee maker is cool simply take off the water reservoir and you’ll see a one way valve at the bottom where water reservoir sits. place your mouth over the opening and blow into the value. Water will now be coming out of the basket, give another blow to clear any left over water and place full water reservoir back on coffee bar and turn on. I think my solution is clearing out an air bubble. Worked for me and took 5 mins. Thanks Paul from Portland

We had the same problem when the machine cut off after only a few seconds. We tried the fix of pressing both the spring loaded valve on the bottom of the reservoir tank together with doing the same on the top of the machine, pressing and holding the black valve on top of the machine where the reservoir sits. All to no avail.
Comments here mention an air lock so we separated the tank from the machine, gently shaking out the water from each part part over the sink until all the water was drained. It worked.
So our theory is that the problem is caused by an air lock which can be cleared by draining all surplus/standing water from the complete unit. Hopefully this will clear the air lock as well?
Good luck.

Our new Ninja will fill carafe when I run just water through the machine OR a coarser grind coffee. When I run a fine grind coffee I may get a half to 2/3 carafe. Just tried it again with some coarse decaf and it worked fine…..full carafe. My theory is that there is a build up in the grind basket, vapor or liquid, with fine grind vs coarse grind that flows more quickly thru the basket to the carafe. I’m no engineer all I know is my theory seems to work. Not good news for the fine ground coffee fans. My wife and I prefer the medium ground coffees so no problem for us. Any other experiences of this nature out there?

Cindy L. I depressed the plunger on the machine underneath the reservoir and cleaned it with a paper towel. Some water came out of that port with a little bit of scale in it and now it's working fine again. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction!!!

Was having the same issues; would start to heat up the water, then about 5-7 seconds later the machine would beep 5 times and stop the brewing process. I looked at he bottom of the water container and noticed the little bubble at the very bottom had a rubber flap, I decided to remove this flap, and all is working great!
Micah Vasquez - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
My machine did the same thing this morning. Our machine is only 5 months old and used every day. Very annoying to have a small amount of coffee in the carafe {less than a cup!} — had to hit button several times to brew full carafe. Will check the water res. when home this evening and hope it corrects the problem. If not I will be disappointed that I spent $100 on a machine that only got 5 months of use. I look forward to coffee house quality at home. Jlars
Julie Larsen -
The beeping 5 times and stopping seems to be completely related to the coffee maker not getting enough water. In order to fix mine I removed a little rubber piece inside the water reservoir (Cindy’s discovery) and I also added a piece of plastic I found lying around between the two springs where the water reservoir and the coffee maker connect in order to allow more water into the coffee maker. The visible difference I noticed is that the reservoir now has air bubbles rising to the top when the machine is successfully drawing more water. Went from not even a shot glass to now a full brew.

Kenneth Dubin - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
The cup setting doesn’t seem to be working. The ninja just brews the amount of water I have in the reservoir. It doesn’t matter what size setting I have it on.
Amanda Blue - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
I had a Keurig and 2 ninjas. All three were problematic and not cheap…same as I see here in the discussion. I finally remembered what a good coffee maker was, the coffee is beyond excellent and the specialty coffees actually taste like what they are supposed to be. It's hot as you want it, makes whatever size you want and the whole house smells deliriously delish! You only have the filter and pot to clean but you have to wait maybe 8 minutes for the best coffee you've ever had…that's because it doesn't put half hot water through the coffee grounds in a minute. Really how can that make a great cup of coffee? It takes a little time and the boiling water must percolate through the grounds , over and over to get the full bodied flavor. Yep, I'm talking good old fashioned PERCOLATOR! Do yourself a favor and get one. You'll be flabbergasted at how good it is.
Load it up at night, same as ninjas…when you get up, turn the stove on under it and do what you have to do, listen for the 'perking' and ENJOY!!!

SOS! Just ordered mine from amazon , It works great for the fist ten seconds then it does the unbearable 5 beeps and shuts off. Second day of having it ran through two clean cycles with vinegar and it worked fine afterwards. NOW, this morning I got up to start it and it was doing the same thing and it won’t run through a full cleaning. I’m going to try the flap thing when I get home but will take any suggestions. I was really excited about this product and I hope to eventually get it to turn around.
catie_drake - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Skip messing with the flap. I called tech support.

Turning the machine over and pressing the black button to release water from the machine worked. You could hear the air bubbles in the vacuum line releasing. Also ran extra cleaning cycles to rid machine of scale.

The clean light just came on today. I have attempted to do the clean and the machine is acting like it is plugged. Only a small amount of water has gone through and has white sediment in it. Water will not go through for a full clean cycle nor will it run a pot of water through on a carafe cycle. I’m not sure how to get it descalec f i can’t get the vinegar to run through. It worked fine this morning. I have done cleans routinely for the three years I have owned. This is the first trouble I have ever had with the machine. Any suggestions?

Turning the machine over and pressing the black button to release water from the machine worked. You could hear the air bubbles in the vacuum line releasing. I tried the clean cycle but even taht stops and beeps. Didn’t work after several attempts to get all the solution through. Tried to remove any bibles or other blockage from the water intake valve. Nothing. Oddly, what worked, was rotating the reservoir about 180 degrees and then screwing it on.

Out of nowhere after it brewed 1/10 of the cup it starts beeping 5 times and shuts off “classic” and makes me retap it to start again. I have a new ninja coffee bar with a thermal carafe. I washed the filter basket, carafe and water reservoir with hot soapy water prior to use and ran 2 pots of water through before brewing a single cup of iced coffee. It had a funny taste but I thought I had added too much of the flavored syrup. Then I made a cup of hot coffee and it had the same funny taste, so I used white vinegar mixed with water and ran a clean cycle. It still has the funny taste. Any ideas on what to try next?

I bought a reconditioned unit from Woot. The brew basket doesnt fit into the coffee maker base at all. Sliding it on the rails and it only inserts part way and there is NO WAY that it will fit to slide all the way in and click. The back plastic part of the basket is the wrong shape to fit into the rear slot on the coffee maker. I think they sent the wrong part. So frustrating. This stinks.

There is still water in the brew basket after it is done brewing.
Stephanie Ebert - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
If you mean that there is a lot of water still draining after it beeps, then you can either let it drain completely, or switch to the non-drip setting and then empty the grounds with the water in it.
I personally stop the drip, then dump the grounds in it later. For mine, it’s not too much water that is dripping after beep, and not much water in the brew basket after the Ninja beeps.

My machine when plugged in immediately selects and tries to brew on the rich brew setting. I ordered tools to open the machine up to try and diagnose the issue since it appears I may be the odd one out experiencing this issue. If I select any other brew option and cancel it, it won't operate until I go to brew a cup. The rich brew button does not appear to operate normally. Once it is de-selected by starting and stopping a different brew option, pressing the rich brew button does nothing. As an added symptom when I had the drip stop set to closed, I would randomly hear beeping from the machine at intervals, when I sat for a moment in front of the machine with the drip stop open, it would start the rich brew process on it's own without me touching the machine.
I'm guessing this is likely an electrical issue with the rich brew button but any info or tips on resolving this would be appreciated.
I have the tools being delivered today and if I happen to fix it on my own, I'll make a follow up comment with the result

Unplug the machine. Removing the reservoir, turn the machine upside down over a sink, press on the black button to release the water from the machine while shaking the machine until the water and air is completely out.
John Lee -
Try not to take the reservoir out when refilling it with water. This will cause less air getting in your machine. Refill reservoir while still attached with filtered water, like from a Brita pitcher. Trust me, the coffee will taste much better! With filtered water you'd probably have to descale your machine less often! You should also clean it when you haven't used the machine in awhile! Cheers! Enjoy your coffee!

My problem with my Ninja Coffee Bar was stopping shortly after starting to brew and beeping 5 times. I looked up fixes on line. Got advice from replace the water reservoir because the plastic valve on the bottom has gone bad, to how to dismantle the brewer to clean the filter by the boiler. My advice is to start simple to troubleshoot. Run a cleaning cycle, using white vinegar. Fill the water reservoir to the travel mug line, press clean and allow the brewer to complete the clean cycle. It takes 60 minutes. The vinegar will (should) dissolve any mineral buildup. Then rinse the brewer by running a coffee cycle using fresh water, with no coffee in the coffee basket. I ran a few pots through mine to ensure any vinegar left in the system would be flushed out. This fixed my brewer problem. I say this after purchasing a new water reservoir thinking it would fix it only to learn that it didn’t. I considered dismantling my brewer, but I didn’t want to get that invasive. Cleaning should be the first fix it option.

Mine seems to have lasted quite a while before exhibiting the short brew and stop. I opened up the bottom and found a gasket/ rubber boot that seals the draw tube wasn't sealed well any longer. I cleaned that and reseated it, closed up the machine and crossed my fingers. This worked. The short brew beep was correct because it couldn't draw water, and so thought the brew was complete. Hope this helps. BTW you will need TR-10 tool to remove bottom screws.

I unplugged my coffee maker while it was on vacation for 3 weeks. When I returned, I plugged it in and set the clock. This morning, I tried to make a cup of coffee. The water came out for about 10 seconds and then started beeping and shut off. I repeated this again and again and I could not get more than a few teaspoons of water out before it would beep and shut off again.
I tried putting in white vinegar and running the machine on CLEAN but, I still could only get it to run for 10 seconds, shut off and start beeping again. Ugh!
