Device will not turn on
Regardless of charge device will not turn on
If this is your problem your most likely issue is the battery, make sure that the battery can still charge, if you plug in the device without the battery does it charge? If so the battery is issue. If you need to replace the battery follow the guide Marshall Kilburn Battery Replacement.
The underlying cause is likely an expired battery. Rechargeable batteries decay overtime, and slowly hold less capacity. In order to maintain the highest capacity it is recommended that you keep the speaker charged when not using it, and keep the speaker out of cold environments particularly, but extreme temperatures in general.
Battery will not charge
Often times this is because the battery is old and needs to be replaced. First make sure the battery is securely plugged into the speaker. If it is properly plugged in and it still wont charge the the underlying cause is likely an expired battery.
Bluetooth won’t connect
Either bluetooth is not found, or disconnects frequently
If your bluetooth is having trouble connecting to the device you are pairing your speaker with you can try a number of different things. First, be sure that your device and speaker are in range of each other, preferably close together, and free of any physical or electrical obstructions like walls or electrical appliances. Freeing your connection of electrical disturbances is important because many of your everyday kitchen appliances like microwaves and gas cookers use the same frequency range as this bluetooth device.
If this does not work, you should check to make sure your software is completely up-to-date. If your software is not, update your software and try to reconnect your speaker and device.
Bluetooth is not found
First make sure that your device has 4.0 or above bluetooth, you can find this information in the device page under settings on most devices. Next, turn off the bluetooth on your device and delete or forget the Marshall Speaker from the list of bluetooth devices saved on your device. Turn off your speaker and device off then turn them back on. Finally, re-pair your speaker with your device. If none of this works the underlying cause may be with the bluetooth piece
Bluetooth disconnects frequently
First charge your speaker and the device that you are trying to connect to the speaker. Turn the speaker back on and see if the speaker connects automatically. If it does and the problem persists try deleting the speaker from your bluetooth memory and trying again. If it doesn't connect automatically delete it from your bluetooth memory and try again. If both of these things don't work the underlying cause may be the bluetooth piece, or a short circuit in one of the wires connected to the bluetooth piece.
Speaker is making a popping sound
A clicking sound often heard on base hits or for high range sounds
If your speaker is making a popping sound you should check the following: First, check the battery power of your speaker and device to make sure they are not low. Next, check the volume knob on your speaker to be sure the volume is not too loud. If this does not solve your problem, check to be sure your speaker is not near any other devices that might be interfering with its signal.
Popping sound on base hit
If this is the problem the underlying cause is most likely the main speaker is loosening up from use, or going bad. It's possible that you could fix this just by tightening it but regardless of the problem you are going to have to open up the speaker and get in there. Follow the replacement guide for Marshall Kilburn Main Speaker Replacement
Popping sound with high notes
If this is the problem the underlying cause is most likely the tweeters are loosening up from use, or going bad. Its possible you could fix this just by tightening it but regardless of the problem you are going to have to open up the speaker and get in there. Follow the replacement guide for Marshall Kilburn Tweeters Replacement

battery dropped from 20 hours of charge to nothing within a week. I do not accept that the battery has died so quickly. The unit is just 6 months old.

Mine is 10 months old. Stops working on battery mode. Only AC mode works, battery led on and not blinking. I stripped battery pack cover and all cells are at full charge. Maybe battery PCB or device problem.

I just get it today, not around 3 hour it can't be charge, there no light at the power indicator.

I don’t get why my Kilburne’s bluetooth LED won’t even turn on. The speaker doesn’t make me use BT, neither try to pair. Only Aux Input is working and i’m getting mad. How to fix?

I have the same problem. Do you already how to fix this?

Mine does same thing new out of box.no luck getting it serviced. I'm done.should have stayed with JBL.

Mine did same thing. I don't know squat about boards but I took the back off (don't forget 2 screws in charge port) under knobs is small board w/ 3 square white connectors. Last one on left ( under treble knob) has a super thin flat blue sheet(plastic?) That slides into small metal opening under white “ box “. It was barely in, probably dislodged from shipping. I inserted it till it bottomed out, turned the unit on,and everything worked perfectly ( lights, bluetooth, volume) hope this helps ✌

I’m working on a friend’s Kilburn unit, purchased about 2016. It started to loose sound, intermittently for a few months. Then, it stopped, no sound at all when it’s turned on. Local dealer won’t help - washed their hands of it.
The “Marshall” service technician in Victoria BC tried to help. The battery is OK. He indicated there are no parts available anywhere in the world for it - and that the interior is covered in a wax/plastic coating which could be a problem.
Before we ship it off to the repair guy, would like to hear if anyone has had this, or similar problem?
Anyone have a schematic diagram for the Kilburn?
Any thoughts would be appreciated… linuxwerks at gmail dot com
thanks.

Battery does not charge after initial use. I sent it back to be repaired under warranty and nothing has changed. Very disappointed!!!

If you know a little bit about electronics, the battery that comes with this unit uses 4 18650 lithium ion cells with a battery management system
you can have a case where it is the battery management system that is dead and not the battery; either way you wont get a charge.
if you have to replace either you will find that there might not be enough space to accomodate a new bms in the tight space that the battery fits in.
I decided to replace my battery with a different bms but in doing so i ended up creating a 3d printed enclosure so both battery and bms would fit. Obviously this would invalidate your warranty but you will be able to replace the batteries or bms again in the future with no issues

Hey Irumbo could you give some more info on what you did her?.. it looks really interesting and will helpmeet I cant figure out the battery should connect to the board and what to test.
Tom Bancroft -
If battery is bad here is what I did:
- take apart the battery— take pictures of how it is wired up, to help you along. ( be careful with lithium ion ),
- The BMS is connected to one end of the battery take care not too damage it. If it is still working you can reuse it.
- You will need a soldering kit and a battery charger for 18650 batteries
- You will need a replacement BMS — look for “4S BMS for 18650 batteries” , get spares
- 4 new 18650 batteries
The hard part.
- The battery enclosure is a tight fit. Look for BMS that is similar in size. If you are lucky the BMS you find will be able to fit in the enclosure. Be patient and careful when wiring up new BMS.
Because of the tight fit you may have difficulty getting a new battery to fit in that space.
Be prepared to either replace the battery enclosure or make a cutout in enclosure so BMS can fit as well.
Good luck.

Thanks Irumbo. I think the BMS in my battery pack is working ok - at least it is giving off 12v. Do you have a suggestiom on how to test it is working ok ie what to test - and what should happen when the battery cables hit the pCB?
Do you have any suggestiomns
Tom Bancroft -
I dont know much about electronics to be safe i would put your batteries in an 18650 battery chrager preferably one that has diagnostic info to tell you whether the battery is bad.
If one of the batteries are bad , you should replace all 4 of them. If they are good then your BMS is bad.
hope that helps.

Battery light flashing.. bought new battery, installed and still flashing after hours of charging on ac adapter. Won't connect to Bluetooth.. any advice
jshifflette31 - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
you may want to check if the BMS is connected correctly to the battery, if it is faulty it will need to be replaced. Not sure about problems with Bluetooth that could be a different issue. All solder connections for 4S need to be connected not just the power and in corrrect order. There may be documentation with your BMS that shows how to correctly hook it up.

Mine keeps turning itself off every 10 minutes or so even when it’s playing music. I think there’s something wrong with the standby mode, but have no idea how to fix this. I’ve had this problem for about a year now, the device is only one and a half years old.

I bought mine new, and after plugging it in to charge the battery, the battery level light is nonexistent, as is the bluetooth light. It makes the noise when u turn it on, as does the bluetooth button, but it won't work, even after 3 hours charge.plus it hums when plugged in. Who knows how long it sat on shelf in store. Disappointed.

My Marshall action II keeps on dropping the music when playing via Bluetooth, it happens for a few seconds every time.
Is it a loose connection or a fuse or a capasitor? Any thoughts?
