Too Many Background Applications
Having too many programs open in the background can slow down your computer’s performance, especially if you’re running low on RAM. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and check what’s using your CPU and memory. End tasks you don’t need, and disable unnecessary startup programs under the Startup tab.
Insufficient Disk Space
If your hard drive or SSD is nearly full, your computer won’t have enough room to run properly. Open File Explorer, right-click the C: drive, and check if you have at least 15–20% free space. If not, delete old files, uninstall unused programs, or move data to an external drive or cloud storage. You can also run Disk Cleanup to remove temporary files.
Malware or Unwanted Software
Viruses and unwanted software can run in the background and use up system resources. Run a full scan using Windows Security or a trusted antivirus. You can also use a tool like Malwarebytes to check for spyware or adware. Remove any suspicious programs from your system.
Outdated Drivers or Windows Updates
Old or missing drivers and software updates can slow things down. Go to Settings > Windows Update and make sure your system is fully updated. You can also visit Lenovo’s support website to update your graphics and chipset drivers.
Overheating or Fan Issues
If your laptop gets too hot, it may slow down to avoid damage. This is called thermal throttling. Use software like Core Temp or HWMonitor to check the temperature. If the fans are clogged with dust, clean the air vents with compressed air. If the laptop still gets hot, the internal fan or thermal paste may need to be replaced.
See our Fan Replacement Guide (coming soon).
Failing SSD or Storage Drive
f your SSD is starting to fail, you might notice slow performance, frequent freezing, or system crashes. To check for errors, open Command Prompt and run the command chkdsk /f
. You can also use tools like CrystalDiskInfo to check the overall health of your drive. If the results show signs of wear or damage, the SSD may need to be replaced.
