Lenovo ThinkPad E15 Gen 3 Does Not Power On
When pressing the power button, device does not power on. Follow these steps to diagnose device.
If your device is swollen, bulging, overheating, or smoking, discontinue use immediately and DO NOT try and power on. It may not be what is causing the power to not turn on, but it should be replaced immediately. Be sure to dispose of your swollen battery properly.
Initial Steps
- Check Battery: Ensure battery is NOT swelling or producing an abnormal smell or excessive heat. If you know how, check if your battery is plugged in. If you do not know how, continue with the guide and it will be addressed at a later section.
- Remove All Accessories From Device: This would be any extra devices or equipment you have plugged in to your device. This includes a mouse, external keyboard, extra monitors, or anything else plugged into your device. If you are unsure, simply make sure that nothing is plugged into the sides of the device.
Malfunctioning Charging Cable
Sometimes it is as simple as your device is dead and the problem is with the charging cable.
- Inspect Charger cable: Find the charger cable and do a visual inspection of charger. Ensure the charger cable is undamaged and ensure that the power cable is fully seated in the AC adapter (this is the large block attached to the charging cable).

Charging Port Fault
At times, the charging port can be to blame which causes the device to stay dead.
- Charging Port Blockages: Inspect the charging cable port (USB-C port on the side of the device). Use a flashlight to inspect for any blockages (either liquid or solids).
- Loose Charging Cable: Insert your cable and ensure it is firmly seated within the port. If the cable wiggles or is loose, it can cause the device to not have enough contact to properly charge.
Faulty Battery
Occasionally, the laptop might not be turning on due to problems with the battery.
- Check Battery Connection: Remove the back panel of the laptop and ensure the battery is connected near the base of the motherboard.

Defective Storage
Sometimes the fault lies within a damaged or disconnected SSD (solid state drive).
