Machine Won't Turn On
Main Switch Broken
It is possible that the main switch is broken and may need replacing.
Cord Worn Out
The cord may be broken and in need of replacement.
Steam or Water Leaks from the Machine
Leak from Filter Basket
Try to find the leak location. If the steam/water leak is between the machine head and the filter basket, the gasket may need to be changed (guide will be linked here).
Leak from Top of Machine
If steam is leaking from the top of the machine, the lid may need to be tightened further or the gasket may need to be replaced.
Steaming Attachment Doesn't Work
Attachment is Clogged
It is possible the attachment is clogged and requires disassembly and cleaning or replacement.
Not Enough Water
Insufficient water may be present to generate steam. Make sure enough water is used.
Water Heater is Broken
The heating element of the machine may be broken preventing you from making coffe or steam. You may need to replace the pump.
No Coffee is Coming Out
Coffee Packed Too Tightly
If the coffee has been packed into the filter basket too tightly, water will not be able to penetrate through, even under pressure. Loosen the coffee.
No Water in Boiler
It is possible there is no water in the boiler. Relieve the pressure by opening the steamer valve and check the boiler for water.
Machine Clogged
The machine might be clogged with detritus or mineral deposits. Clean the machine (guide will be linked here).
Not Enough Coffee is Being Made
Not Enough Water
Water is lost to condensation and evaporation throughout the process. Add some additional water.
Water is leaking
It is possible water or steam is leaking from the machine. Power off the machine to check gaskets (Guide will be linked here).

The issue doesn’t seem to be that the coffee is packed too tightly and no water/coffee is coming out, but that way too much watered down coffee/water comes out…nearly all at once. Am I not using a fine enough grind of coffee?
John Bethany - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
The issue isn’t that the coffee is packed too tightly and no water can get through, but that too much water/coffee comes through almost instantly, so that the result is very weak coffee. Am I using too coarse of a grind of coffee?
John Bethany - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
the machine should have water to make steam but the water from the group head was dripping and the steam cannot steam

Please update your instructions to include under NOT ENOUGH COFFEE IS BEING MADE the following:
After replacing the gasket, if there is still a problem, you will likely need to keep the old grounds in the attachment that holds grounds and run vinegar through the system. Just as if you are going to make coffee, run a carafe of distilled vinegar through — this removes mineral buildup.
I have used this machine for decades and routine maintenance means running vinegar through it once every two or three years.
Anyway — love your project and love this espresso maker! Keep up the great work!

Our Krupp 963 has a code 13 can you help
Mark - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Hi Mark,
Here is a video — not mine and I didn’t even watch it — but the machine focused on here is the Krups 963 that we are discussing here. It has no computer anything associated with it and therefore can not offer you a code. The Krups we are talking about as only one P and an S. Perhaps that is part of the confusion. Anyway — I know for a fact that you will be able to pick up one of these Krups 963 machines on Ebay for not much money — less than it will take to fix a machine throwing a code. Avoid complicated espresso machines — this is technology going back to the 1880s and it surely does not need circuitry. It just needs an ON switch and patience. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1I91M_ew...

Angela Forster Spicer - yesterday
Hi Angela —
I have been using this model for decades and have dealt with all problems. It’s pretty clear your gasket is shot — totally easy fix:
Instructions:
1. Search the following words to find the gasket — buy it online: gasket seal krups 963 espresso
2. After it arrives, remove the “filter holder” — the part where you put the freshly ground espresso powder into.
3. Look at that place where the “filter holder” locks into — you will see your problem — the gasket it right there — where the water is coming out. Remove the old gasket.
4. Replace your new gasket into that same spot.
Okay — thank you for asking. It is kind of a pleasure to help people who are still getting use out of these awesome machines. Hopes this helps.

Small plug in the frother is blowing off….have cleaned all.
Donna Robertson - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Hi Donna Robertson— I have used this machine successfully for decades without this accessory. Toss it. It’s not doing anything. If you love froth, just level you’re milk to the end of the frother and enjoy frothing without that weird plug.
Please let me know if this works. Glad you cared enough about that old machine to even search something up.
Chris Riseley -
Thanks so much for your info on frother attachment. A guy I was dating said the same thing.

Hello I have steam leaking from the top so Nono water is forced through the grounds, nor does the steamer work…I cleaned and de scaled but feel it is s gasket issue….where do you get replacement gaskets from in the UK?
Anna Wise - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
I have ordered them from Krups in the past: https://www.smallappliance.com/krups_par...
Chris Riseley -
Just explored the their site a little more deeply. Looks like both needed gaskets for the 963 are no longer being sold at the Krups website. We will have to get creative. There are likely many food-safe gaskets of the same size that will work out there. The strainer gasket is really specific. I hope someone who knows more about this will join the conversation.
Chris Riseley -
Many thanks for swift reply…. I’ll keep searching the internet….!
Anna Wise - crwdns2934203:0crwdne2934203:0
Please do leave a message here if you find something as we will all need these gaskets one day if we keep using the 963.
Chris Riseley -
From my searches it seems likely that they are still available in the USA….several used complete machines are available for sale on eBay from USA…apparently still working…….luckily my issue turned out to be limescale now sorted after a fashion! Such a shame that companies don’t continue to supply parts for older products.

Am attempting to repair a Krups 963 to replace black pastic component (hiddent from view w/out removing top of machine) that is on the top side of the metal bracket into which you position the coffee filter mechanism. To do this, the top of the machine obviously needs to be removed. I removed the white ring that holds the top onto the water outlet nozzle as instructed but cannot remove the top of the machine without cracking it. I've poured hot water on the seam connecting top of machine to bottom and used a knife and thin screwdriver to separate the two. Parts of the plastic components show a little give in them, but full separation does not seem possible without cracking the top of the machine. Any suggestions?

Every day now for last 2 weeks I’ve been getting coffee grounds up in the group head screen. In the past it only happened if portafilter basket was overfilled, but now even under-filling still happens.
Tamping hasn’t changed.
Have removed GH screen and cleaned, but things seem OK, as does the taste and quantity of espresso.
Really dislike the soupy mess instead of the usual dry puck.
Have heard the beans can do this, but how?
Or has something changed with the machine (Krups 963B)?
The machine is so simple, but could there be an inner passage clogged, or ???
