Coffee Tastes Metallic or Bitter
Coffee from Keurig tastes strange.
Calcium Build Up
If your coffee tastes bitter, your Keurig’s water lines may have calcium buildup and require cleaning.
To clean your water lines, you need the following:
- 48oz of Distilled vinegar
- A large coffee mug
- A cloth or rag
To begin cleaning your Keurig, follow the below steps:
- Empty your Keurig’s reservoir of water and clean the walls generally with soap and water
- Clean out your K Cup holder, removing grime and coffee grounds
- Fill your water reservoir up to the fill line with distilled vinegar
- Place your coffee cup below the coffee dispenser
- Set your Keurig to the largest brew size, ensuring that no K Cup is inside the holder
- Run the largest brew size
- Dump the outputted vinegar from your coffee cup into your sink
- Continue running cycles until the reservoir is empty
Outdated Water Filter
If your coffee tastes metallic, it may be time to replace the water filter inside your water reservoir. Follow our guide on replacing your Keurig’s Water Filter.
Keurig Doesn’t Turn On
Keurig is unresponsive to the power button.
Dead Outlet or Blown Fuse
If your Keurig is unresponsive to power button presses, the outlet you are using may be malfunctioning.
Move your Keurig to a different area and try a new outlet.
Faulty Power Cable
If your Keurig is still not turning on, your power cable may be faulty. Follow our guide on replacing the Power Cable.
Keurig Not Brewing a Full Cup
Keurig is brewing a partially filled cup, less than expected.
Faulty K Cup
The K Cup brand you are using may be faulty, try brewing a cup of just water (without a K Cup inserted), and see if a full cup is poured. If a full cup is brewed, you should consider buying a new brand of K Cups.
Faulty Secondary Water Pump
If your Keurig is not brewing a full cup of coffee, you may need to replace the secondary water pump in your Keurig. A faulty water pump will prevent enough water from reaching your mug.
Follow our guide on removing the Secondary Water Pump here.
K Cup Holder Will Not Close
Lid will not close or opens again after closing.
Dirty K Cup Holder
If your K Cup Holder does not close or is jammed, it may need to be cleaned. Excess coffee grounds may be preventing the holder from closing. Follow our guide on removing and cleaning the K Cup Holder here.
Faulty K Cup
The K Cup you are using may be damaged or warped. Try grabbing a new K Cup.
Defective Lid Spring
If your Keurig's lid will not close or does not stay open, you may need to replace the spring underneath the handle.
Check out our guide on replacing your Keurig's Lid Spring.
Coffee Temperature is Low
Coffee brewed from the Keurig is luke warm or cold.
