Many users have complained about the JBL Go 4 battery life. If your Bluetooth speaker doesn't hold a charge or if your device battery needs to be charged often, review this troubleshooting page for potential solutions.
Device is Overheating
The battery life of your device may decrease if the device overheats, as the battery is working too hard. Here are some questions to help you diagnose this issue:
- Do the external adapters ever exceed 5V/3A?
- It’s recommended to use the cord provided in the box
- Do you charge your device in extreme heat conditions?
- Does your JBL Go 4 feel hot to the touch after usage or charging?
- Avoid using loud volumes for long periods of time with your JBL Go 4.
If so, any of these answers are a yes, try to use a different charger that doesn’t exceed 5V/3A, and try to charge/use your device in relatively cool environments so as not to damage the battery.
Damaged Charging Cable
Charging cables see an incredible amount of hard usage, and over time, they can become damaged or less effective. Some questions you should ask to see if the charging cable is damaged are as follows:
- Does the cable have visible damage?
- Does the cable charge only when held at a specific angle?
If one or both of these answers are “yes” when you apply your Charging cable, then it’s likely that your charging cable needs replacement, and the JBL Go 4 is not at fault.
Software/Firmware Issues
- Make sure to keep the speaker updated with the JBL app, as software glitches can lead to battery inefficiencies.
Battery Failure
Over a long period of time, lithium-ion batteries can become unhealthy and eventually will begin to lose battery life. Some questions to confirm battery failure are as follows:
- Does the device get hot after low or moderate amounts of usage?
- Does the speaker appear to be swollen or enlarged? If so, the battery may be unsafe to use and should be powered off completely before replacement.
- To replace the battery, please review these instructions for the battery replacement process.
JBL Go 4 Battery Replacement Guide
To keep the battery healthy moving forward, be sure that your device is fully charged before use, keep the speaker at an appropriate temperature between 41°F and 113°F (5°C and 45°C).
Faulty USB-C port
Over time, the charging port can become damaged or blocked by debris, stopping the device from fully charging or charging at all. Here’s what to do to see if this is the issue:
- Use a flashlight to inspect the port for any foreign objects
- Use a small sewing needle or a similar object to remove any debris or items from the port
- Wiggle the cable to see if any connection can be made. If a connection can only be made in a specific position, it is time to replace the port itself.
The USB-C port is soldered to the motherboard. You can replace the motherboard or if you want to replace the USB-C port, it needs to be desoldered to replace it. The following is a link to the JBL Go 4 Motherboard replacement. Review the instructions provided carefully before beginning the replacement.
