HP ProBook 640 G2 Will Not Boot
In our research, we’ve found that several common problems arise when users attempt to boot. Follow these guides to see if any of these symptoms apply to you.
Ram Module Failure:
Common RAM module issues for the HP Probook 640 G2 include failed memory modules, improper installation causing poor contact, and motherboard-related memory controller problems.
- This could be fixed by reseating the RAM modules, but it might need a replacement.
Hard Drive Failure:
Common symptoms of hard drive failure include hearing clicking or grinding noises, as well as booting error message such as "Disk Boot Failure," "I/O device error," or "Boot device not found." It is also possible to encounter the Blue Screen of Death if the hard drive is corrupted.
- Make sure your hard drive is visible in your BIOS settings. If it is not visible you can run a diagnostic.
- If you determine the hard drive has failed or is failing, it needs to be replaced.
Poor Battery Performance:
Many users of the HP Probook 640 G2 have issues with the laptop's battery performance. A common problem is that the battery either fails to charge properly or loses its charge rapidly, even after relatively short periods of use. In some cases, the battery may not be detected by the system at all, or the laptop shuts down unexpectedly despite indicating sufficient battery life. These issues can significantly reduce the device's usability.
- You can use a software tool for your OS to evaluate battery performance.
- If you find that the battery is underperforming, it needs to be replaced.
Damage to Charging Port:
A damaged charging port can prevent your device from booting.
- If your charger won't fit in the charging port, then the pins are most likely bent. You may be able to bend them back, but don't forget to disconnect the battery to prevent electrocution.
- If this fails to work, or you can only get your device to charge by wiggling the power cord, the port may also have a loose connection and will need to be replaced.
Cooling Fan Damage or Failure:
If your device is overheating and you hear that your fan is either whirring too loudly, making crackling noises, or not turning on at all, then the fan may need to be replaced. This could also be caused by dust build-up, which would obstruct the airflow.
- Clean the fan and see if that resolves the problem
- If you continue to have issues, the fan will need to be replaced.
