Projector Light Out
Issues with the projector’s light can be identified by examining the lights on the projector. Light bulb issues are indicated with the power light is off, the status light is flashing blue, the lamp icon is orange, and the temperature light is off. However, if the power light is flashing blue and the lamp icon is flashing orange, you need to replace the lamp immediately before damage can occur. Go to our lamp replacement page for instructions if immediate replacement is necessary.
Lamplight Alignment
First, check to see if the lamp was installed correctly, resetting the lamplight as needed.
If it is not an installation issue, check to see if the lamp is burnt out or broken. If it is, please proceed to our lamp replacement page for further instructions.
Too High Altitude
Issues with the projector light may also be caused by the high altitude. If you are operating the device at a high altitude (above 4921 feet/ 1500 m), turn on the projector’s high altitude mode. To get to the Epson VS240’s high altitude mode, go into the projector’s setting menu, navigate to the extended section, the high altitude mode will be found by switching through the operation setting.
Sound Issues
If you are having any problems with the sound (i.e. no sound, too loud, too quiet) try these solutions.
Incorrect Audio Source
Check to confirm you are on the correct input source or switch to the correct one by pressing the Source Search button. If you are using a computer or video source, check that the volume is turned up and that the audio output it set to the correct source
Check if your sound is coming from an HDMI source. If it is not from an HDMI source, set the device to PCM output.
Check if you are using USB Display function, then go to the EPSON USB Display Settings program on your computer and turn on the Output audio from the projector setting.
If you are using a Mac (apple product laptop) with no sound from HDMI source. First you should check if your specific Mac supports audio through the HDMI port. Next, if it does not support audio through HDMI port, you need to connect an audio cable.
Muted Device
Check if your device is muted by pressing the A/V Mute button.
Incorrect Cables Used
Check to see if all connected audio cables are labeled “No Resistance”. If they are not all labeled correctly, change the corresponding cable to the correct one labeled “No Resistance”.
Unexpected Noise
If you hear an unexpected noise immediately after turning off the projector, it is normal. This noise is the cooling fans running at a highspeed. No action is necessary here.
This could be a faulty speaker in the projector. Our replacement guide for the speaker can be found here.
Display Error
If the projector is on and projecting an image; however, the image is different than anticipated in some way, there may be some display errors.
Lens is Unfocused
If the projected image is blurry (i.e. not crisp or having fuzzy edges), the projector may be out of focus. To refocus the projector, you must locate the focus ring which is in the largest opening in the top of the projector. Then, you must rotate the focus ring until desired outcome. If problems still occur, go to settings and adjust the sharpness to improve image quality.
Lens is Dirty or Damaged
If you notice dark spots or missing regions of the image, it may mean your lens is dirty. To solve, simply wipe the lens clean. If problems continue, replace the lens by viewing our lens replacement guide.
Image is Dim
If the image is dim, the lighting sources from other sources may be too bright for the projector. Adjust the available settings on the Image menu such as brightness, contrast, tint, color adjustment, and/or color saturation. Dim the lights surrounding the projector as much as possible. If the image still is not bright enough, replace the projector’s lamp.
Full Reset

Projector Overheating
Projector overheating can be identified by examining the lights on the projector. An overheating problem can be identified either by the power light flashing and temperature light flashing orange, or the power light is off, the status light is flashing blue, and the temperature light is orange.
Check Projector Ventilation
Check that vents are not obstructed by nearby objects. Obstruction of vents can result in the device’s heat emission being blown back onto it result in an overheating problem. Simply move nearby objects away from the projector to allow proper circulation.
Check that the vents and air filter are not clogged. If they are, clean them by first turning off and unplugging the projector, then, use a small vacuum designed for computers or use a very small brush (like a paintbrush) to gently remove dust from the air filter
If the air filter is damaged or you cannot remove the dirt, click our air filter replacement page to learn how to change out the Epson VS240 air filter.
Too High Altitude
The Epson VS240 can also overheat as a result of the environmental temperature. Please make sure that the room temperature is not too hot. Turn off and unplug the projector and turn the room temperature down before plugging the device back in.
Overheating issues may also be caused by the high altitude.
Projector does not turn on
The projector does not show any signs of powering on
Power Button is Stuck/Broken
Ensure that the power cable is plugged and check if the power button is able to be pressed in and see if the power light comes on. If the button does not move or does not display a light, the power button might be stuck or broken. Dip a Q-tip into rubbing alcohol and rub the Q-tip into the crevices of the power button and press the power button. This should free the button.
Power Supply is Faulty
Ensure that the power cable is plugged in. Using a multimeter check to see if the power supply is producing any voltage by placing the black end on a ground and the red end on each of the pins, one at a time. If voltage is not present when plugged in, then replaced power supply.
Motherboard is Faulty
If power supply and button work check if motherboard is faulty. Check for any physical damage to the motherboard, which is a green board with wire connected to it. If there is any physical damage the motherboard might need to be replaced. If there is no physical damage, clear the dust on the motherboard and see if that solves the problem. If not then check the voltage across the motherboard. If there is no voltage present when the system is plugged in, then the motherboard will need to be replaced. You can find the replacement guide for the motherboard here.
