Is your Boss CE-300 experiencing unwanted noise or distortion during operation? Use this troubleshooting guide to help diagnose why.
Electronic devices are too close
Phones, TV’s, radios and various other electronic devices may interfere with the signal of the device. Move the other devices and see if there is any improvement in sound quality. Even try plugging the device into a different circuit/ breaker than other electronics like your TV.
Device is poorly grounded
Ensure that your device’s power cable is in good condition. If the power cable is not making good connection to ground, it will likely cause poor audio quality. There is a grounding pin located at the back of the device. Try adding a ground cable, or that it is connected to ground if it is installed in a rack.
Dirty or Corroded Connections
Dust, dirt, or corrosion on the input/output jacks of the device may cause interference. Cleaning the contacts of any debris can help. If the connections are too damaged to be cleaned, or cleaning the terminals improved sound but the issue is not resolved, you may need to replace the terminals. You may follow the guide to replacing terminals here.
Audio input/ output cables are bad
Try testing the cables for the input and output. Test the setup with new cables, ensuring that the cable has no kinks, tears, and that the connectors are in good condition. Testing shorter cables may also help. The longer the cable is, the “dirtier” or more unclear the sound may become. Both the length and quality of the cable will greatly improve the sound quality, oftentimes more expensive cables will produce better sound.
