Bissell Powerglide Cordless Troubleshooting

The Bissell Powerglide does not emit sound, does not rotate brush, or does not provide suction

1. Remove battery housing cover by pressing release button and pulling away
2. Remove battery by pulling out of machine
3. Place battery in charging base, ensuring it is plugged into the mains
4. Charger light will flash red during charging
5. A full charge will take 2 hours

Recline the vacuum and switch on the brush.

Plug in cord to an outlet that provides electricity to a powered device to ensure functioning outlet. Inspect the power cord from end to end for cuts and breaks.

"The vacuum does not pick up dirt."

Locate the Main Hose and reconnect by pushing the hose connection to secure the latch.

Inspect the hose and handle near the top of the vacuum for cracks and holes. Turn the vacuum on and sense air flow near the handle, especially near the 90 degree bend.

Press the empty button to release the dirt container and return it properly. If it will not seal due to dirt in the dirt container latch, use this guide and ensure that the integrity of your o-rings and seals is not compromised.

Vacuum gives off a burning smell after being turned on.

Inspect the brush roller and the belt to see if debris, such as hair, has gotten caught. If there appears to be debris tangled around the brush roll and/or in the belt, use our replacement guides for Bissell Powerglide Cordless Brush Roller Replacement replacing the brush roller] and replacing the belt to be able to remove any debris that has gotten tangled.

If the belt is free of debris and is not turning, the belt needs to be replaced. Follow this belt replacement guide.

If the brush roller is free of debris and is not turning, the brush roller needs to be replaced. Follow our guide to replace the brush roller.

If the brush roller and belt are clean and functioning properly but there is still a burning smell, the motor may be malfunctioning.

The Bissell Powerglide starts producing odd or abnormally high levels of sound

Check around the brush area to see if anything has obstructed the brush roll. Sometimes, long strands of hair will work their way in between the brush roll and the rubber belt that connects the brush roll to the motor. See the guide to replace the brush roller for instructions on how to remove the brush roll in order to remove the hair and/or any other foreign obstructions.

A damaged or broken vacuum belt will prevent the brush roller from spinning normally. Check your vacuum’s belt and look for any stretching or deformation. If it is broken or damaged, replace it. Make sure it is aligned correctly as well (that is, it is around the two circular parts). If it is unaligned, realign it back on the bearings. See the guide to replace the belt.

If the brush roller and belt are clean and functioning properly, the motor is likely malfunctioning.

The vacuum is on and all other parts of the vacuum are operating correctly, but the brush roller does not spin

A damaged or broken vacuum belt will prevent the brush roller from spinning normally. Check your vacuum’s belt and look for any stretching or deformation. If it is broken or damaged, replace it. When the brush has too much hair or lint on it, this will catch and stop the brush roller from spinning. Look under your vacuum and see if your brush has too much hair or lint. If so, remove the brush and clean it out. See the guide replace the brush roller.
