Amazon Echo Show 8 2nd Gen Troubleshooting
Released June 2021. Second Generation of the Amazon Echo Show 8.
Device Will Not Turn On
When the power button is pressed or held down, nothing happens.
The device is not plugged in
The device may not be plugged into the power port properly. The device does not have a battery and works on a direct connection from the outlet to the device. Check the connection between the power cord and port to make sure there is a proper connection.
The power port is not clean
The power port may be dirty, affecting its ability to turn on. To clean the port, use a Q-Tip, 91% isopropyl alcohol, and toothpicks. Use the toothpick to pick out debris in the port. After moistening the Q-Tip with isopropyl alcohol, clean out any dirt in the port. Lastly, use the toothpick to pick out any leftover cotton that the Q-Tip may have left in the port. Plug the power cord back into the port, press the power button, and wait for the device to turn on.
The device bricks
The Amazon Echo Does Not Respond to Anything
If the device refuses to turn on even after plugging into the power. Reset the device by pressing and holding the Mute and Volume buttons down for about 15 seconds until you see an Amazon logo. Facial Recognition Will Not Work
The Amazon Echo is not recognizing your or others' visual IDs.
Visual ID is not registered
Check the settings of the device and ensure your visual ID is registered. If your visual ID is not registered, go to the settings of the device and follow the proper steps to register your visual ID. To register the visual ID select “Profiles & Family”, then select Add visual ID to this Echo”. Select “Agree and Continue” and follow the prompts to register your Visual ID.
Ensure the camera is on
Check that the camera shutter is not covering the camera lens by flipping the switch at the top of the device. Make sure the camera is on by pressing the microphone/camera button on top of the device. Lastly, make sure the device is not on Do Not Disturb. If all else fails, remove power from the device for 10 seconds to restart the device. If none of these solutions work, the camera may not be working, and it needs to be replaced. The Screen Is Not Working
The screen is not responding or not turning on.
The screen will not turn on
Unplug the power from the echo and wait 1 minute. Then plug the device back into the power. If the device still does not turn on, try again and wait for 2 minutes. If the device still does not turn on there may be a problem with the power port. Verify the proper power cord is being used. Screen is unresponsive
Unplug the device from the power cord wait for about 10 seconds and plug the device back into the power cord. If the screen does not become responsive, try unplugging from the power again, however, for a longer time.
Wi-Fi Will Not Connect
The Amazon Echo will not connect to Wi-Fi.
The device is too far from the router
Your router may have trouble maintaining a connection to your device when you are far away or in different rooms. Depending on where your router is placed, being upstairs, downstairs, or in a different room from your router, can interfere with the strength of the signal. Moving closer to the router or bringing the router closer to you will help with maintaining a stronger connection and have less interference with the signal.
Echo needs to be restarted
Restarting your router can help reset the signal. Unplug your router for about 15 – 20 seconds and plug the router back in.
Issues with internet service providers
If the above solutions do not work, consider contacting your internet service provider for further help.
Bluetooth Devices will not Pair
The Amazon Echo will not pair with Bluetooth Devices.
Devices are not Bluetooth-compatible
Some Bluetooth devices are not compatible with one another. Do a quick internet search to ensure the devices you are trying to connect to the Echo are compatible.
Bluetooth cache needs to be cleared
Connect your Bluetooth device to another device and clear the cache for your Bluetooth device. Also, if the device was previously paired, try unpairing the device from the echo and repair the device.
The device needs to be restarted
Restarting your device can potentially fix the problem. Simply unplug the device from the power for 10-20 seconds and once the device is back on try pairing or connecting the devices again.
The bluetooth device needs to be restarted
Your Bluetooth device, ex: phone, should have a reset feature. Resetting your Bluetooth device can potentially fix the problem.
