chadd, I'd be careful about using a hammer ;-) a loose connector usually displays different colors or distorted images across the whole display, not just part of it. You can, and should, make sure that the display connector is properly seated. If it is, and if you do not see any obvious damage, check the connector for any bend or broken pins etc. I'd suggest you replace the LCD. Use these guides to work on your iPad.
