Use this guide to replace the belt switch on your Whirlpool Duet WED87HED Dryer
The belt switch shuts down the entire dryer if the drive belt breaks. It is an important safety feature of your dryer. Without the clothes tumbling it is possible for the airflow to be obstructed and the dryer to overheat.
When this switch fails a primary symptom will be that the dryer refuses to run.
This repair is rated as difficult, mainly because of the large number of disassembly steps needed in order to actually remove the belt switch. You will be nearly completely disassembling your dryer. This isn't particularly difficult if you are an experienced repairer, but is not something to attempt on your first try. It is just long and tedious.
