How to Replace the Heater in Your Dishwasher

    • Unplug the dishwasher from the electrical outlet to ensure safety during the repair.

    • Remove the front decorative panel by unscrewing the four screws.

    • Unscrew the heater's brackets using a wrench on the nut, typically size 8.

    • Take a Picture: Before disconnecting anything, take a picture of the wiring for reference during reassembly.

    • Use a wrench to loosen and remove the nuts securing the heating element terminals. Carefully disconnect the electrical connectors from the heating element.

    • Unscrew the screw that holds the heater clamped to the cabinet.

    • Locate the heating element, usually a U-shaped metal tube at the bottom, remove the heater from the dishwasher and take it to a store to match a new one visually.

    • Install the new heater by reversing the removal process.

    • Reconnect the wires, ensuring the grounding wire is attached to the external conductive part.

    • Reattach the heater brackets and ensure the gasket is correctly positioned.

    • Reattach the bottom access panel and secure it with screws.

    • Slide the lower dish rack back into place inside the dishwasher.

    • Turn the water supply back on.

    • Run a short wash cycle to ensure the heating element works properly. Check for leaks or loose connections under the dishwasher.

    • If everything is functioning correctly, the replacement is complete.

    • Acces the hidden hetaer at the back of the dishwasher.

    • If there is a protective cover over the heating element inside the tub, remove the screws and detach it.

    • Locate the heating element connections at the back of the dishwasher.

    • Take a Picture: Before disconnecting anything, take a photo of the wiring for easy reassembly.

    • Use a wrench to remove the nuts securing the heating element terminals. Gently disconnect the electrical connectors.

    • Inside the dishwasher, release the heating element from its mounting brackets.

    • Guide the terminals carefully through the holes at the back of the dishwasher while pulling out the element.

    • Install the new heater by reversing the removal process.

    • Insert the new heating element, making sure its terminals go through the designated holes.

    • Secure the heating element with the mounting brackets inside the dishwasher.

    • Under the dishwasher, reconnect the electrical wires and tighten the securing nuts with a wrench.

    • Reinstall the plastic clips and panels as they were originally placed.

    • Access the flow-through heater at the bottom of the dishwasher.

    • Take a Picture: Before disconnecting, take a photo of the wiring and hose connections for reference.

    • Remove the plastic cover secured with small screws to expose the flow-through heater.

    • Loosen the clamp and disconnect the heater from its position. Use pliers to remove the hose clamps securing the water inlet and outlet hoses.

    • Use a wrench to remove the nuts securing the electrical connectors, then disconnect the wires.

    • Remove the heater and replace it with a new one following the same orientation.

    • Use lubrication and pliers for an easier assembly.

    • Reattach the clamp ensuring the heater is tightly secured in place.

    • Reattach the bottom access panel (kickplate) with screws.

    • Reinstall any remaining components and ensure everything is secured properly.

    • Push the dishwasher back into place.
