Your jacket has got your back. It follows you on adventures, keeping you warm and dry even through the stormiest weather. Return the favor by periodically refreshing its durable water repellent (DWR) coating!
DWR is your jacket's first line of waterproof defense, causing water droplets to bead up and roll off the surface of the fabric instead of soaking in. Over time, dirt, oil, and regular use can wear down this protective layer, allowing water to seep into the fabric.
This guide will show you how to reapply a DWR coating using Storm Eco Proofer, a Patagonia® recommended product. With just a few simple steps, you can restore your jacket’s water repellency and keep it adventure-ready!

Spray-on treatments are great for targeted reapplication or when you want to avoid a full wash. Follow the instructions on the bottle, which typically include:
-
Spray onto a freshly cleaned garment while it's hanging or laid flat.
-
Focus the spray on high-wear areas like shoulders.
-
Let it sit for a few minutes, then heat-set it with a dryer or iron.
-
-
-
Reapply DWR when water no longer beads on the surface of your jacket. This can vary based on use, but typically every 6–12 months or after every few washes.

Can you recommend a durable water repellency treatment? I have tried to treat my rain jacket in the past and have been disappointed in the results.
If fabric becomes wet, it loses its performance and breathability indeed. Therefore, most technical garments contain a tiny layer of Durable Water Repellency (DWR) coating outside. This layer of liquid prevents dirt, grease, oil, and water as well. But, usually, protecting this essential fabric layer becomes very difficult yet.
Therefore, some people use the best waterproofing spray for the outdoor fabric to protect this liquid coating. These waterproofing sprays protect our footwear, and other clothing stuffs from water damage. Though this spray’s main function is to prevent water and form a protective barrier against sun and dirt, it has more benefits than one. These waterproofing sprays improve the performance of your fabrics.
