Background and Identification
The American Sanders Floor Sander is a square floor sander manufactured by Nilfisk, a Denmark-based company that manufactures professional cleaning equipment. Nilfisk produces equipment that is suitable for the industrial market as well as consumer and commercial markets. Clarke began in 1916 as a maker of floor sanders as well as other vacuums and cleaning equipment. It was bought by Studebaker Company in the 1960s and later by Nilfisk. It is now a regional brand within the Nilfisk company.
The Clarke Floor Sander is intended to be used on wood flooring, but can also be operated on tile flooring or Terrazzo, a composite flooring made of chips of various rocks and minerals. The square shape of the abrasive pad allows the sander to effectively work in the corners of a room.
The sander uses a moving abrasive pad to remove the upper layer of a flooring. Before using a floor sander, it is important to remove any nails, staples, or tacks that are in the floor, as this can seriously damage the sander.
