Track down a number of problems using the 2002-2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Troubleshooting Guide.
Identification and Background
The easiest way to identify your Dodge Ram is to check the owner's manual for the words "Dodge Ram 1500 3rd Generation."
To identify your vehicle, locate its Vehicle Identification Number (V.I.N). The fifth digit of the VIN will be“C” if it is a 2x4 model, or "F" if it is a 4x4 model. The sixth digit should read “1,” indicating it is a Ram 1500 series. The 10th digit should read 2-8, representing the year it was manufactured, “2002-2008”.
Other verification methods include grill identification and suspension identification. The 3rd generation 1500 was the first to include a rounded corner grill and independent front suspension instead of a live axle.
The Dodge Ram is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by the Chrysler Group. The third-generation Ram debuted in 2002 for the 1500 model. This 1500 featured an all-new design, including a new frame, suspension, powertrains, interiors, and exterior design. The third generation had a larger grille with rounder corners than the previous Ram. The four-wheel-drive 1500 series lost the live axles of the previous generation in favor of an independent front suspension. This body style continued the signature cross grille and the separate fender look. The third-generation Ram Heavy Duty won the Motor Trend Truck of the Year award in 2003.
The third generation was available in six different trim lines including Big Horn, SLT, SXT, ST, Laramie, and sports package. Some available accessories included leather seats, a navigation system, chrome rims, heated front seats, a moon roof, a premium audio system, and a tow package.
The third generation was available in either 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrain options.
The third generation Ram comes with one of five engines. These engines include: 3.7L V6 Magnum, 4.7L V8 Magnum, 5.9L V8 Magnum, and a 5.7L Hemi V8.
