First thing first: Check it on an external monitor. If it shows there, the issue is the display or display cable. It's usually the LCD cable rather then the LCD, but I have seen a few LED LCDs go bad over the years - usually the cheap ChiMeis and such - AUO and LG tend to be reliable.
If that doesn't help, look for a POST code or blink pattern. A lot of newer consumer laptops no longer have beep codes, but the commercial PCs still do it. It's usually the power LED or caps lock key used to show what is wrong.
