S9 overheating, camera not working

Hello,

I have the following issues in case anyone knows what is the problem:

  1. Front & rear camera are not working
  2. LED notification does not work
  3. Phone overheats when charging (turned off)
  4. Phone overheats more while on, and drains battery very fast

Has not been dropped or disassembled, it all started after I found it with totally empty battery despite it was on the charger.

Appreciate any ideas since I am away from home on business and I don't have access to my tools to disassemble and check source of overheating.

Thank you.

@chrisp87714 based on your assessment of "Phone overheats when charging (turned off)" and "Phone overheats more while on, and drains battery very fast", the very first task I would undertake is to replace the battery. Remember heat-short circuit. Could be the battery or even your cameras. Start with the battery. If nothing else it'll be a great known-well starting point for any further troubleshooting.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Battery Replacement Sorry, but it looks like you will have to borrow some tools from somewhere. I don't think this is fixable with a software setting.

Hello,

Thank you for the quick response. Yes it's most probably a hardware issue. I mentioned lack of tools because I can't open the cover and troubleshoot further to see if excess heat is coming from the battery or the mainboard. If it's any worth, the phone gets hotter at the top part above the camera and also opposite on the screen, and the sides around the buttons, less on the area of the back cover where the battery is underneath.

I also suspected the battery first but I'm thinking that it wouldn't render the camera and the notification led inoperable. Do you have in mind a case where a failing battery is causing such disruptions and overheating on the board? Or one where the camera was faulty and causing overheating?

Thank you.

@chrisp87714 this case sounds more like the cameras shortening out the power rail. This could be through on of the cameras PMIC. Hardware wise not much going on above the cameras most of the battery PMIC's are on the opposite side of the battery.....
