You can reset these and replace the pad, but I'm having a hard time finding the part for the TR4640 :-(. That said, once I saw a similar model (the TR4720) is $107 new, it's probably because there is low demand for the replacement pads, as it falls within the disposable threshold. We try and avoid having to say this here, but printers (especially inkjets) tend to tip against you in terms of repair - lasers tend to be better, commercial units like the large volume models tend to be worth doing some basic repairs except for things like the controller/formatter board and panels which end up being as much as a new unit, and the control panel when it costs as much as a used low metered unit for older models. Outside of that, part costs tend to be favorable for commercial and SMB lasers vs what they're worth. You can usually clean them with hot water and gloves (and DO NOT USE A SINK WHICH ABSORBS INK RAW - PUT THE PADS IN DISPOSABLE TUPPERWARE) and reinstall them, but they may not hold as much waste ink as they did before and you will need to watch for ink flooding. I'm sure the long time folks like @oldturkey03 would clean the pad, reset, and supervise, but there is a bit of risk you have to account for.

Gemini has instructions, but they are just flat out wrong - so do not use Google AI for this. The good thing is that this one is old enough to potentially have an onboard reset. However, it jives with the time I reset an MG series from Goodwill with a 50% filled pad to see if it works:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the Power button
  • Press the Stop/Reset button 5 times until the screen is solid black. Release both buttons and it will enter service mode.
  • Some models need the power button pressed once to confirm it.

NOTE: If the method there doesn't work, try 5-6x vs the amount in the video.

If that doesn't work (i.e., it should print a page stating EEPROM: 0.0%, D=000.0% or similar), you will need to purchase a key for this program to reset it: https://wic-reset.com/download. Then, reset it in Windows, but it still needs to be put into service mode. Canon's service tools also routinely leak more and more often as RtR becomes a hot button issue and Canon increasingly does nothing to offer lip service to regulators, so look up "Canon Service Tool [printer model]" and see if you can find it. RtR means fewer DMCA takedown issues with these tools, but I have saved them for pro Epson and Canon models worth servicing when they leak ;). Yours appears to use V3600 like so many.
