Depends on the year - I know the 2015 and older cars are easy to do as I've done one before as a family favor (5.7L Charger Hemi R/T -- Not my cup of tea due to the MDS issues and the 5.7s having a habit of head issues, I'd take the 392 version) -- you need a code scanner with key programming support or a dedicated key programmer like the KM100 to do it but it's a quick one - you just need an original key for decryption as the 3rd party tools primarily rely on a programmed key. These new cars never have a self-programming option like older cars did.

I did test the KM100 programmed key, and it didn't lock once the programming was done. However, if you use a dealer tool, it will likely lock to that car.
