Why does my pc stop charging when getting hot.

Whenever i play games that put load on the pc and the pc starts to get hotter, the battery stops charging while plugged in. When unplugged from main source and plugged in again it starts charging but for a very short period of time. What might be the cause of this.

It's a safety feature in the battery to prevent thermal runaway. That said, one or two occurrences may not be cause for concern but if this is a pattern something is very wrong. First thing I would do is try a new charger - don't buy a Chinese clone, you want an original HP (OR if the machine supports USB-C PD charging, use that to test it -- but that's a relatively new feature once you get to 11th/12th gen on the ULV laptops -- the full powered ones like the 15t may not have it on earlier models with the 10th/11th gen CPU but the 12/13/14th gen models might). If the behavior continues, you need a replacement battery. The HP Spare# for the adapter is L00818-850.

That being said without the model we may not be able to locate it for you as this series has run multiple generations and varies wildly -- it's not as easy to generalize parts without the model. Best I can tell from PartSurfer the battery HP Spare# is L48495-005.
