Kenmore banging noise in spin cycle

I've read discussions giving a few possible causes for banging during the spin cycle in Kenmore washing machines but none which address my situation. Mine only bangs in the spin cycle after the wash cycle, not after the rinse cycle. It happens with every load, so I don't see how it could be a matter of an imbalance in the clothes in the tub. Shouldn't whatever causes it in one spin cycle cause it in both? I'm hoping the answer to this will help me better pinpoint the problem.

Hi @rickw75040

What is the model number of the washer?

@jayeff That would have helped, wouldn't it? It is a 22-year-old 11023022101.

Hi @rickw75040

Usually banging during a spin cycle is caused by faulty suspension springs and/or counter balance springs. These are used to keep the tub reasonably steady whilst spinning.

As to why it only occurs in the spin cycle but not the rinse cycle I don't know but it wouldn't hurt to check them, all the same.

The links have videos that show how to replace them. Also the part numbers shown for the spring kits are the correct ones for your model washer. If they need replacing, search online for the part number only, to find suppliers that suit you best.
