I have a problem with my screen stutter/tearing

ASUS ROG GU501GM

I dont know what is the issue but the screen is absolutely buggy and it kinda js tears/stutter, i dont even know what to call it, It kinda js looks like my screen is bouncing and appeareing in doubles all around and its hard to see things or read things since it kinda juggles the words and stuff and i wanna see if theres a way to fix it without having to buy anything, im also just kinda scared to even open it up because i dont want any permanent damage but whatever it takes id appreciate it

Hi @neonxopa

You have to turn it on to find out what and where the problem is.

Try connecting an external monitor (TV?) to the laptop's HDMI port and check what the display from the laptop is like when viewed on the TV. Don't forget to press the Fn + F8 keys (both together) to switch the display from the laptop screen to the TV.

If the display seen on the TV screen is also tearing etc, then there's a motherboard problem and further testing would be required.

If the display seen on the TV is OK, switch the display output back to the laptop (Fn + F8) and then move the laptop lid very slowly back and forth to see if doing this affects the picture on the laptop screen i.e. stops it tearing, does nothing still the same or makes it worse.

If it stops the tearing so that there's a good picture or if it makes it worse, it may be a damaged video cable where it passes through the hinge to get from the motherboard to the LCD panel.

If it does nothing then most likely it is a faulty LCD panel which will have to be replaced.
