Apple’s new format for the 14 lineup features a 6.7-inch OLED—like the Pro Max—but the same features as the iPhone 14 with a dual camera setup and the Bionic A15 chip with a 5-core GPU.

Can you post the full panic, just so I now I've got it right? A screenshot. Or other. If you can?

Hi Liza,

You were on the right track with error code . Here's the smoking gun from your panic log.

Alisha, who asked you about it previously, is the author of the best information we have on iPhone panic log errors. Here's what their wiki page has to say about yours.

iPhone SMC Panic Assertion Failed - iFixit

Sensor Array: 0x500000

Likely Issue: Battery **

**Replacing the battery will result in a warning message that the battery installed is not an OEM Apple battery, unless you use an Apple battery supplied by Apple's Self Service Repair program and run System Configuration.

The short story is your phone is having an issue talking to the battery. It scans its sensors every three minutes, so three minutes after booting it goes to check. In your case for some reason it can't talk to the chip on the battery so it reboots the phone in an attempt to recover. Of course this is a hardware failure, so once it comes back up and checks the sensors again, it sees that it can't talk to the battery so it reboots the phone... and just keeps doing it because despite how smart a computer can look, it's really stupid and will never ever realize that rebooting again won't help.

So the fix here is to replace your battery. If you buy a genuine Apple battery and have iOS 18 then you should be able to get rid of the "genuine parts" warning using the Repair Assistant; otherwise you'll either have to pay Apple to fix it or live with the warning.

Here's the iFixit guide showing you how to do that repair if you decide you want to tackle it yourself.

actually secondhand batteries would work as well. It's going to show as "used" in the parts and service history, but it won't have any compatibility issues.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@leooooooooo Yes, absolutely correct; a new or used battery is fine as long as it's a genuine Apple part, with the caveat that it can't be from a phone that's been reported lost or stolen. And with the release of iOS 18, users can now pair their Apple battery to the phone using the Repair Assistant, eliminating the warning message and restoring the ability to view the battery health information.

@arhankhan28190 I trimmed your post down to just the first page, as the rest of it would only be useful for Apple engineers. Your error is exactly the same as that of the original question, so the fix is the same too; replace your battery.

@supperaddmaster, your phone is being a little odd in that it's giving you the error code in decimal values rather than hexadecimal like most others, However, with the help of a programmer's calculator, it's easy enough to turn your code into hex so we can figure out what it means.

Code: 4194304

Hexadecimal value: 0x400000

An iPhone 14,8 code means you have an iPhone 14 Plus. This page gives the codes and probably fixes for your phone.

iPhone SMC Panic Assertion Failed - iFixit

Here's the diagnosis for your phone based on that information.

The note here was put in place before the release of iOS 18 and the availability of the Repair Assistant. With that update, it is now possible to replace your charging coil with a genuine Apple coil, new or used, and pair it back to your phone with that utility. The only caveat is that the replacement coil cannot be taken from a phone that is reported lost or stolen, but you have the choice of buying a new part from Apple or a used one online at sites like eBay.

Of course, Apple doesn't sell just the coil by itself; you have to buy a new back glass panel, which comes with the coil.

Self Service Repair Store

That does make the repair easier; here's the iFixit guide showing you how to replace that back panel.

I hope that answers all your questions. Good luck with your repair; let us know how it all turns out!
