Best repair place to replace the AMD GPU

I can get the logic board board out of my 17" unibody MacBook Pro, but I don't have a way to test the AMD GPU. My best guess is that the solder BGA is defective.

Suggestions about a good repair place to send the board to. I know that if the GPU is also defective, I can, at best, expect a used AMD GPU. That's OK. I also know that the cost is going to be high.

What I need to know is who has had good results, and with what repair places.

I may also buy a "warranted" replacement logic board to have on hand.

Thanks for any replies.

I feel your pain! This was a great system! I had two which I pampered for years. In the end both died of GPU failure.

The problem you face is the GPU's this series used are not available as a spare and even the used board market wouldn't be much better as the chip was just not very good from the start due the a both manufacturing issues as well as our needs today require more graphics power than what this GPU was expecting.

I was never able to find a pin compatible replacement, I cried hard when my last system died!

Thanks for your reply. I'm going to keep looking for at least a while. I'm wondering what might be done, like flashing a PC version of the GPU.

And this is why I went from 2015>M1 16". The 17" machines being lost to dud parts still hurts hard, but the 16" M series is Apple admitting they were wrong as soon as they got rid of Jony Ive. It's like 95%+ of what the 17" was before the textured glass

Now with the textured glass, it's a near identical clone.

@wnlewis - There is no means to fix the GPU by flashing as the chip is not a programmable gate array it's a lithographed chip.

@danj - Thanks for the information. I did not know that. So, a Mac edition GPU would have to be sourced.

@nick - Which M1 16" did you buy?
