Crosley CR-78CD Classic Turntable w/CD, Cassette, AM/FM Radio. 17.75w x 9.25h x 14"d. Bought 3/28/03 for $199. Manufactured February 2003.

When playing a record, it distorts.

I was playing a record (Shel Silverstein's Drain My Brain, 2025 colored vinyl) and I put it on Side B. Sounds like a normal thing, right? As soon as the music started playing, it was highly distorted. Any answers?

Hi @wholovechrome

Do both sides of the record sound distorted or only the B side?

If only the B side can you try a different record to see if it plays OK on both sides?

Does the distortion sound like the record is playing too slowly or too quickly?

If too slowly it may be a stretched belt which drives the turntable.

If too quickly then usually there's usually a potentiometer (or maybe two) located in the turntable drive motor circuit that is used to adjust the speed of the motor. This can also be checked in the case the belt is OK and it plays too slowly.
