Laptop BIOS Issue: CMOS 500 or 502 error

Hello, I am having a bit of computer issues where my laptop will crash or turnoff completely within the span of 10 - 15 minutes if its not chraged for long. Whenever I turnit back on I've been warned of an issue of CMOS Reset(502)or CheckSum(500) poping up. I've ran several system extensive test and found that there is a primary failure with the battery check & charging port. So far its stated that its just a general power issue but I'm concerned that there may be another underlying issue that could affect the hardware/software. Will replacing the battery fix the general power issue all together and if so what battery would be a good to buy a battery for the Hp Spectre x360 Convertible 15 - df0013dx series. And if say the battery is replaced and the issue continues would it best to say its a hardware issue with the motherboard

I don't know if this helps but here is a picture of the back panel on my laptop removed. And something that I've noticed is that one side of the battery looks swollen to some degree or uneven that when I tried to put the back panel back on it became diffcult to put it on properly. Does that mean the battery is dmaged or punctured.

Hi @pantra

Leave the charger connected when using the laptop and create a battery report to check the condition of the battery.

When you have the report, compare the Design Capacity value versus the Full Charge Capacity value as shown in the report. For a good battery they should be close in value. You can work out the condition as a percentage by using the formula Full Charge Capacity value x 100 ÷ Design capacity value. If it is <35% replace it.

The cmos error is due to the fact that the RTC (Real Time Clock aka cmos) power supply, is provided by the main battery and if it is too low a value, then corruption to the BIOS can occur.

Here's the maintenance and service guide, taken from this support webpage for the laptop.

Go to p.31 (39 of 93 pdf) in the manual, to view the procedure to remove/replace the battery.

The battery part number is L29184-005. (supplier examples only). Search online for the part number only, to find suppliers that suit you best.

The part number can be found on the battery itself if you wish to confirm that it is the correct one.

If you decide to replace the battery, remember to dispose of the original battery responsibly. The environment will thank you for doing this.
