Repair information and guides for corded and cordless power drills.

Which way to connect A.C. for drill? Does it matter?

In UK, I have a cheap NLH710HD variable speed mains drill (710W). The brand is called "Performance Power". The power cord broke. So had to be replaced. In UK A.C. is 240V, 50Hz. A.C. connects to a FA2-4/1BEK speed controller; to points labelled: 1 and 3 on the speed controller. But which gets the live and which the neutral? Does it matter?

Here is the diagram on the FA2-4/1BEK. The 2 black wires at the bottom go to a 0.22 micro farad capacitor.

Hi @mark4asp

It does matter.

For added safety reasons the Active wire is normally a switched connection whilst the Neutral is generally not, (unless a double pole/single throw type switch is used and then both are switched connections).

Looking at the image of the switch you posted, the Active (brown or red wire in power cord) would connect to terminal 1 (switched connection) and the Neutral (blue or black wire in power cord) would connect to terminal 3, (straight through connection).
