motherboard cpu power related question

i replaced my fried asrock a320m motherboard with an asrock b550m hdv and thought the cpu would just work since the slot is the same. with everything connected, the computer powers on for a second and goes right back off. would an incompatible cpu cause that or is it the board? could the previous board have fried the cpu or the ram or both? the cpu is a ryzen 3 1200, the psu is a thermaltake smart 500 watt, motherboard is asrock b550m hdv

I would be good to include more info about full model of motherboard, the CPU version, PSU info. It might be a compatibility problem.

The CPU is not on the supported CPU list for the motherboard, so maybe it isn't compatible.

These lists are not always totally accurate but since it doesn't work and the other motherboard didn't either with the CPU it could be that the CPU is also faulty.

the other motherboard worked with it until the graphics card fried it. the cpu still works as far as i know cause the motherboard powers up without the 4 pin power connected

Then it's probably not compatible with that particular motherboard, given that it is not on the list whereas it is on the CPU support list for a A320M

Make sure that it is on the list of supported CPUs and then also make sure that the correct BIOS firmware version needed for the CPU you choose is correct.
