Trackpad and keyboard not working even after disconnecting LAS

I'm working on a macbook for a friend, and as far as I'm aware there was no liquid damage or anything, but the trackpad and keyboard are not working. I already have a nerd.tool.1 for another thing I was working on, and it is reporting the lid angle sensor (LAS) as open even when the lid is closed.

If this was an issue with the LAS though, I would assume the keyboard and trackpad would start working after disconnecting it, though they still have no response. No click on the trackpad, no keyboard input.

Could it still be the lid angle sensor even if the problem remains after disconnecting it?

The lid angle sensor is not a straight analog on/off output, it is a digital output.

What was previously done to the system? The sensor ribbon cable is quite exposed and can easily be damaged.

When you close the lid with the sensor connected does the internal display darken just before the lid is closed? What happens when you have an external keyboard and mouse connected do they work when the lid is open or closed?

With the sensor connected, the screen stays on when I close the lid. External mice work when its open and closed. I also noticed that whether the lid is opened or closed, the screen will go black after 10 seconds. Even with the external mouse moving and clicking, it will go black, then turn back on a split second later. With the LAS disconnected, the screen stays on

No damage as far as I can see, and my friend said they didn't do anything outside of normal use

@joshwilber30236 - Well it does sound like the sensor has failed. Here's the needed part from Apple as you will need access to the paywalled calibration tool to adjust the sensor: Lid angle sensor P/N 661-26216 which is listed out in the online Apple Service Manual: MacBook Air (M2, 2022) Repair Manual you'll need to order it from here: Apple Self Service Repair

I already have the calibration tool (nerd.tool.1) from another repair, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything else that could cause this considering the keyboard/trackpad issue remains after unplugging the sensor

@joshwilber30236 - From the symptoms that what I would focus on. Did you try running the onboard diagnostics to if that offered a better error report.

I have the new sensor installed and calibrated. The screen now properly turns on and off when I open or close the lid, but the trackpad and keyboard are still not working.
