Screws inside display won‘t grip

Hi,

for whatever the reasons the screws inside my display (picture attached) have become loose. They wont grip when trying to screw them back in.

However, when screwing them in without the top part (so just directly into the bottom) it works. So it seems to be a length issue.

Is there anything i can do?

They are the original screws…

This is the screw: its T8, I think 4mm in length and 2mm in diameter.

I would just order a set from both models & hope one of them will do it... I think the screws you pictured are 4mm long threads & 5.3 in total including the head (maybe wrong). I would give it a go at least. Failing that then we have to look for another screw that will do it....

Thanks for the help!!

@carl_jfischer Good, has many choices in there, one must do it, good luck!

Works very well (almost too tight) with m2.5x6mm screws. Thanks for the help!!

Have the screws 'threaded' at their tip? If so try to contact The BookYard and ask if they have a fresh set available for your model. If the frame itself has become 'Threaded' then this can be a problem especially IF these are the hinge screws?

Here are the screws MacBook Pro 15" Screw Set - Hinge (Display) (x2) (12-15) : Recycled

It does sound like the threads are damaged which could be the lid or the screws them selves.

@carl_jfischer It is a bit of a long shot IF any of the 5.3mm replacement screws didn't solve the problem, to order a set from say a 2009-2012 A1278 model as these are 6mm and 'might' just do the trick. Check the shells thread beforehand to see it is damaged there, just don't go 'to tight' as we don't have much room to play with. Good luck!

Thanks!!

I guess its the lid, because they work fine on the other side…

Is there any way to solve this? Getting a new display seems a bit of an overshoot to me…

Are these the right ones you suggested? My original ones are T8…

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@carl_jfischer Oh, your issue is on the display case, I was thinking the screws from an A1278 that secure the hinges to the KB case... I cannot check if it would work as I don't have an open display case..... I was going by the length of the screw on which the A1278's are 0.7mm longer which may be able to get a grip in the socket.... I cannot compare the screws to confirm. Long shot..... 50/50 and not going to break the bank to try. Post a picture of the actual screw in concern and we can try to compare them.

If the screws won’t grip with the top part attached, try using slightly longer screws or add tiny washers to improve the fit without damaging the threads.
