Why is my laptop getting a lot of overheating issues.

my laptop is starting to often overheat and shut down, i cleaned its insides and the issues reduced but its still there, just less often. When i first bought it (3-4 years ago), it barely had any such issues unless i was running a high need game, now it overheats easily what to do?

PS- This keeps happening usually after a little while of running games.

This may seem like a basic question, but how do you know it's overheating? Are you testing temperatures? Is there a warning message?

@flannelist So, i can view the temperature in the omen command centre, whenever it goes past 100 the pc shuts down, i also feel the heat in the space above the keyboard and the air my cooling system lets out. The heat is normally a lot but its been more hotter with these shut downs.

First thing I would do is get some canned air like this (Home Depot) and clean both the fan and heatsink with the laptop opened up - just make sure to disconnect the battery. Without a device model we cannot locate your SM, but this might just be a dust issue. I'd also monitor the temps for a little bit if you do nothing else.

If you can I would also change the thermal paste. A lot of the time it's mostly dust but ancient thermal paste can help make it worse. You can get a complete set for what you need here: iFixit Thermal Paste. If you have a spreading tool like a card, I would see about getting thermal paste locally, or something like ARCTIC MX-6 if you have to buy it online. Best Buy also has CORSAIR TM30 if you are near a Best Buy.

Thank you, i didnt really even know thermal paste could be the problem, I'll also research more on the fan and heatsink part because its my first time and i didnt really want to spoil my laptop. All i did was brushing off the dust all under it while only gently brushing the components because i was too scared i would break something. thanks again!
