Samsung NP305E7A -A01US No Sound thru speakers or the Headphones

I have a Samsung NP305E7A -A01US I won off eBay looks good but for some reason there is no sound in the internal speakers or the headphones even thru if you click on the volume butt it is shows the bars as if should be working

is this a motherboard problem or speakers and if the speakers don't work will that cause the headphones not to work?

Thank you

This is what device manager says below

Hi @tj8799

What is the status of the AMD (or Realtek) High Definition audio controller in Device manager?

Does it show that "This device is working properly"

Go to Device manager > Sound Video and game controllers > right click on the High Definition audio controller entry i.e. AMD or Realtek > Properties > General tab > Device status box.

see above I added the device manager

yes it says it is OK

@tj8799

Try installing the applicable audio drivers and see if that resolves the problem.

Also just verifying that you inserted the headphones into the headphone jack and not the microphone jack which is next to it?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

there is no sound from both the internal speaker or the headphone audio driver is correct maybe the speakers are bad and that making it to the headphones don't work

Hi @tj8799

Did you right click on any High Definition Audio device entry in Sound, video and game controllers and the select Properties etc?

If so did it show that it was working OK, you never said whether it was or not?

It's not showing that specific drivers are installed for the sound controller.

Check in Device Manager > Sound Video and game controllers > right click on the High Definition audio controller > Properties > Details tab > Properties > Hardware Ids and check what Ven and Dev numbers are shown.

For a Realtek controller it should be something like Ven_10EC Dev_0887. Not sure what AMD hardware ID code is.

Once you know the make of audio controller used in the laptop by the Ven and Dev code i.e. AMD or Realtek here's a link that has the drivers for the laptop.

Scroll down to Audio drivers and then find the drivers for the make of audio controller used in your laptop i.e. AMD or Realtek and then download the latest version and install them in the laptop and check if the audio works. You will have to re start the laptop after the drivers are installed to check.

So all look good but again no sound is that a system board or can bad speaker cause the phone jack and internal speakers not to work?

@tj8799

Did you try installing the specific drivers for the audio controller? Not sure if you did or not.

If you have then it could be a faulty headphone jack.

When headphones are inserted (depending on the type) they either operate contacts inside the headphone socket that disconnect the audio to the speakers so that it should come out through the headphones or they operate a single contact that signals the audio controller to switch the audio away from the speakers and onto the headphones.

If you haven't installed the specific audio drivers then try it and check. Worst case is if they won't install, best is that they may fix the problem

I installed the AMD High Definition Audio Device High Definition Audio-kontroller as the web said it was the correct one

Thank you

@tj8799

What is the Ven and Dev code for the controller shown in Device manager?

Information that I found online suggests the Realtek is the correct driver for your model.

As I said the Ven and Dev code will tell you who the manufacturer of the controller is so you know for sure.

@tj8799

Do you get audio if you connect the laptop to a TV using the HDMI port?

If not, it may be a headphone jack as it should show up that it is there.
