I am facing a problem while washing my down

I orderd a expensive down that is eiderdown from Iceland. It was really warm but expensive and its been 4 months and now I thought to wash it but when I am putting it on my washing machine its sounds is getting changed.

I tried this 3-4 times till now but still facing the same problem and when I am washing my old down but its local product then its not coming a down weight and size is same.

Any advice what should I do on this?

In my local area there's no good dry cleaning service as this down costed me $7000 which is very expensive and I don't want to get it ruined by unprofessional.

I am doing this at my own, any advice what should I do with the machine?

@andrewmac1

You may have to weigh it when it is dry and when it is soaking wet, to see the weight difference.

Eiderdowns will absorb and retain a lot of water and 1 litre of water weighs 1Kg

COOL I got your point.

Hi @andrewmac1

Perhaps check the weight of the eiderdown when it is soaking wet.

According to this article the eiderdown needs to be washed in a commercial washer or at least a washer with a minimum 10Kg load capacity.

From what I could find online, Samsung washers weight load is rated at 1.36Kg per cubic foot of tub size.

Your model washer is a 4.5cu.ft. model so this equates to 6.12Kg.

If the eiderdown is heavier than this when it is soaking wet then this may be causing the washer to struggle when washing it.

If it is heavier than this, then perhaps you may have to gently hand wash it in a bathtub with a lot of water in it, using a mild detergent, rinse well and then gently squeeze it to get most of the water out - don't wring it, and leave it to dry in the shade. A windy day helps as well. If hanging over a clothes hoist, try placing it over 3 or more lines so as to spread the weight.
