A2159 no display after boot

Hi all,

Im experiencing an issue with my MacBook Pro 2019 A2159. After replacing the broken display with a new unit (labeled A1949), the following behavior occurs:

Normal Boot:

The Apple logo appears at startup, but a few seconds after opening the lid (or at the login window), the display goes black only the backlight stays on. The touch bar remains functional and can adjust brightness

Safe Mode & Recovery:

Both modes display the screen correctly, with no issues observed.

Tests Performed:

Reinstalled macOS (clean install)

Reset PRAM and SMC

Ran Apple Diagnostics (no hardware faults detected)

Disconnected the camera

Has anyone seen similar behavior or have any suggestions? Any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

@andreanavarra - Where did you buy the display? If it’s new virgin display you will need to calibrate it via Apples paywalled tool, a used display will work but you do loose TrueTone.

I thought the calibration was only on the M series. I haven't read anyone online who had this problem. I also updated to Sonoma with no results. As soon as I open the lid it works for about 5 seconds and turns off. I would like to know what happens that makes it turn off, I doubt is not the sleep sensor because the touchbar is on and in safe mode the sleep works correctly.

The issue is the source of the display, this series from the display factory didn’t have the camera firmware loaded which was done during the build of the system in the assembly process. So a virgin display won’t work properly. While the term calibration can be misleading it’s what Apple calls the step.if you got a used display the firmware would be present.

the M Series also need calibration due to parts serialization.
