When I turn the Eco Throttle button off it kills the generator. Is this a bad switch or something more nefarious? I have not changed the switch yet.

Normally, a small engine with a throttle will shut down when the throttle is set to minimum.
I don't know specifically about the Honda but your manual may tell you.
