Apple's mainstream 2020 iPhone was released October 23rd and comes with a 6.1" OLED display, a dual 12 MP camera system, and in five available colors. Successor to the iPhone 11.

"Unknown" battery after authenticating with iOS 18 Repair Assistant

The battery replacement guide states:

And...

I did this, but it still says the battery is "unknown". My battery was iFixit brand, not Apple. But in the repair guide it sounds like this should work either way. Has anyone gotten this to work with an iFixit brand battery in iOS 18?

Hi @diegovogel,

I think that unless it’s from the Apple self service repair store or it’s a genuine battery from a different iPhone you can’t calibrate it. Apple has been trying to crack down on 3rd party repairs so that would be the reason, as when you get it from the self service store, Apple serialises the new battery to your phone remotely so after you do the calibration the old battery is now no longer serialised to your phone so the new one is now your battery.

Thanks Elias. I sure wish I'd known about the Apple Self Service Repair Store before doing this. Definitely would've gotten my parts from there instead. Genuine parts and same price as iFixit after the return credit.
