The Sega Game Gear portable gaming device was released in 1991 in competition with the Nintendo Game Boy.

Why Is There No Image On Screen After Recap?

I recently replaced all the electrolytic capacitors on my VA1/2 game gear. I have a red power light and I can hear the game running but I don’t have a picture. One of the backlight fuses is blown but even when I shine a flashlight from the back of the screen I don’t see anything useful. Before the recap the screen would be white temporarily so I’m not sure what happened or what I should check next.

Hi @magicskeleton

Check that you installed the capacitors the correct way.

It seems like a lot of them are electrolytic types therefore they are polarity dependent.

An electrolytic capacitor has a broken stripe down one side which indicates the side where the -ve leg of the capacitor is located, whereas the motherboard should have a +ve symbol on the board indicating where the +ve leg of the capacitor should go.
