Repair and disassembly information for the 2020 refresh of the MacBook Air model A2179 with an Intel processor that was released in March 2020.

No adhesive in MacBook Air battery replacement kit..what do I use

I have purchased the battery replacement kit which I thought would have everything required to replace the battery. However, it does not. I need adhesive to re-install the speakers and battery. The Tesa product is recommended but I need to know what size(1mm/2mm etc), I should purchase.

Are you sure the adhesive is not present? Every battery I have gotten has it it may not be that obvious! There is often a colored sheet covering it.

Anyways… I don’t use the supplied adhesive! I use the 3M Command adhesive strips instead so I can remove the battery with a lot less force later!

Also note not all of the batteries are glued as you didn’t tell us your exact model the older ones use screws.

I have the early 2020 Macbook Air model. I have found the precut adhesive pad but it seems a bit flimsy. I am most concerned with the speaker reinstall.

Also, this is my first replacement so maybe I am overthinking it. Just in case, what side of the 3M strips do you use?

@mariolebar Did you follow this guide? MacBook Air 13" Early 2020 Battery Replacement in this series the battery should have come with the command strips already mounted. Or at leased have come with the battery to be applied. The 3M strips are a bit different as they have a foam core, unlike the ones Apple uses (or the replacement battery). Unlike a wall which can be uneaten the two mating surfaces here are very smooth and there is just very little space to use the thicker strips.

I would use three per side like how Apple originally had it setup.

Hi,

Unfortunately, there really is no adhesive tape in the kit. Very weird. I am good with purchasing the TESA tape recommended but what is the width that would fit the groove properly? It defaults to 1mm width but that doesn't seem wide enough when I watched a couple of videos.
