A film and slide scanner from Nikon identifiable by the model number 5000ED.

Scan head gradually gets more offset after each scan

I have an issue where the scanned image gets more and more out of frame. It gets worse after each frame and i get this error message in NIKON SCAN 4.0.

And where you can see the previewed image in NIKON SCAN 4.0.

This is a result of the Stepper motor being damaged and slipping on the shaft. All you have to do is simply replace the motor and it will work normally again.

It is not easy to get parts for this scanner anymore since there are no spare parts produced for it as of today, but apparently you can use stepper motors from the LS-40, LS-4000 works on this one too.

The original motor is marked NN-255, but you can also use motors marked NN-253.

Here is an ifixit guide to fix this issue.
