Why can my laptop RAM be fully utilized under ideal conditions?

Why is my RAM workload always above 90%? How can this happen even though I have turned off unnecessary services and have tried several things to lighten my RAM workload?

Hello Rais! Can you tell me how much RAM you have?

Most times it is because you don't have enough ram installed. This can be fixed by upgrading the RAM modules.

Here is a list of compatible RAM modules. (Click for the list)

Here the Amazon links for the same RAM listed above.

Amazon link 32GB.

Amazon link 16GB. (Recommended)

Amazon link 8GB.

Here would be the total amount of ram installed after upgrading.

If 4GB is soldered:

4GB+32GB=36GB

4GB+16GB=20GB

4GB+8GB=12GB

If 8GB is soldered:

8GB+32GB=40GB

8GB+16GB=24GB

8GB+8GB=16GB

Happy iFixing!

Hi @betatechlabs

Just curious where the 32GB ram option come from? Did you read it online, where somebody said it worked i.e. with either 36GB or 40GB max ram?

There are two different motherboards used in the laptop. One has 4GB ram soldered and the other 8GB soldered, both with only 1 spare slot.

The Crucial link above only guarantees 8GB or 16GB modules i.e. 20GB or 24GB max

Lenovo only an 8GB module, i.e. 12GB or 16GB max

Cheers

Hello @jayeff

From what I can see on Lenovo's website, It says that 32GB is compatible but not recommended. It does work without problems. The Max amount of ram you can have in the laptop is 36GB/40GB. I also have this laptop with 40GB of ram installed. (8 soldered, 32GB DDR4 SODIMM) I have not had problems.

@betatechlabs

OK

Interesting that the laptop's product sheet I linked above, mentions nothing about a 36GB module or even a 16GB module.

Cheers

@jayeff

The 36GB config would mean 4GB soldered and 32GB of SODIMM.

And the 40Gb config would mean 8GB soldered and 32GB of SODIMM.

For some reason I have always found Lenovo's maximum RAM recommendations to be incorrect. Maybe they try to play it safe or something. Point is that is works for some reason.

Maybe I missed it. What are your computer's specs and especially amount and type of RAM? How many modules? What Operating System? is everything up to date and Windows Defender enabled?

Rule of thumb is to upgrade if 75% are used. Unless you just have high usage due to malware. That obviously would be a separate problem.
