MacBook Air M2 display not functioning after display replacement

The Macbook Air, on the latest MacOS 15.1 Beta, has gone through a display issue so I had to replace the display. I've worked on many apple devices as I run a repair shop, however in this case, when I replace the display, it functions as usual for about 5 mins and it completly goes black. Tried with a new display in my shop, same outcome. The Mac runs completly fine with the broken display, and when connected to the external screen.

Where did you get the display?

I've got one from amazon, and the second batch from ifixit.

To be clear the Amazon display was a factory fresh display and I believe that is also true with the iFixit display as well.

What happens when you boot up under iOS 14? Using Beta versions might change things which has happened before.

Did a DFU restore to downgrade it to macOS 14, still the same outcome. Maybe apple updated the firmware to block third party repairs?

@chanhyeong49990 - That was my thinking as well! While not pleasant from a cost perspective I think you’ll need to get the display via the Apple self repair option so you gain access to the paywalled calibration tool which can only be gotten getting the part directly from Apple. the other option which is still a gamble is to locate a used display as that had worked before. But that may fail in the same way.

If you can write a complaint to either the EU or US consumer protection agencies. As both have the right to repair legislation either coming or enforced.

Cheers Dan! I’ll try to see how it goes after the official release of the MacOS 15, and sort this out. Fingers crossed that it will not be a feature blocked by apple to prevent self repairs
