HP zbook firefly 14 G11 stuck on backlit black screen

I recently bought a new laptop and was fine until the wifi symbol bugged and got stuck on disconnected to I just restarted my laptop. It's now just stuck on a black screen after it posts and spins its little circle

I've tried a hard restart by disconnecting AC and holding down power button where caps lock flashes once and a battery indicator flashes once. Plug it back in and still doesn't fix it. I've let it sit on this screen the first time round for about 15min to see if it was just being silly and I checked if plugging it to a external monitor would find the problem

When it's in this black screen it connects to my Bluetooth. It also boots into bios so the panel is find too. Any help appreciated

Hi @kakkywacky

Does it start and work OK in safe mode?

If also not, try the following to get into the WRE (Windows Recovery Environment) and check if you can repair the startup.

Turn on the laptop and when it starts to boot into Windows force stop it by pressing and holding the Power on button until it shuts down.

Do this 3 times in a row i.e. Turn on > boot > force stop > turn on > boot > force stop > turn on > boot etc.

On the 3rd attempt it should boot into the WRE menus. If it does select Troubleshoot > Advanced > Startup repair and follow the prompts

Yeah so I thought about doing this. Currently just trying to boot it into safe mode required bitlocker code. It's stuck on the HP posting screen

I've just run the advanced startup repairs it's saying scanning and attempting repairs will update you

Yes it's booted now. The advanced startup repair worked. Is there somewhere I can see the reason why it died in the first place?

@kakkywacky

Glad you got it going.

Corrupted system or driver files perhaps as they stop a normal startup

Was there an update just prior to the problem occurring? Sometimes updates cause problems, not that the update itself was faulty but software glitches seem to occur just after they have been done. Not all the time only sometimes which makes it frustrating

You could look in Event Viewer to see if there are any Critical, Error or Warning events that stand out, especially if any are logged at the time the problem occurs although given that it seems that Windows wasn't loading properly there'll be nothing there. Worth a look anyway. Press the Win key + x key (both together) to get to Event Viewer.

I've taken to performing an sfc /scannow command after every update just to ensure that all the system files are still OK. (Type cmd in the Search box on the Taskbar and select Command Run as Administrator. In the Command Window type sfc /scannow then hit the Enter key - yes there is a space between sfc and /)
