From what you have described it sounds like a power issue, not a keyboard issue.

When you plug in the charger what is the color of the MagSafe LED, Amber or Green or its it just not lit?

I would first gets some isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab to clean out the MagSafe charger port as dirt can stop the full insertion of the plug.
