New display compatibility for my 2014 5k iMac

Howdy iFixiters!

I have a 27” late 2014 iMac 5k with a cracked display. I am interested in getting my a replacement panel for it, but would rather source an OEM panel from another used computer than to trust some third part manufacturer to replicate a true 5K resolution.

So, I have been looking on eBay for this model computer either for parts with a good display or just used, but I am wondering what other model years, if any, also have compatible displays.

For example, would a 27” 5k 2017 iMac display work on my 2014?

And if anybody does have a good recommendation for a reliable source for a new display that is comparable to the OEM one, please let me know.

Saludos,

-M

I'll be honest I haven't tried different displays other than what the given system required. This what I can tell you/

The Late 14/Mid15 systems use a LG display: LM270QQ1 (SD)(A1) or LM270QQ1 (SD)(A2)

The Late15 system uses a slightly different LG display: LM270QQ1 (SD)(B1)

The 2017 system uses still a different LG display: LM270QQ1 (SD)(C1)

These displays are hard to find as people still prefer the 27" system and theres been a bit of an issue with the 24" displays messing up with dim bars!

@danj To be clear, I do have a 27” iMac, and am in search of a replacement 27” display, so this should make it easier to find right?

Thank you for sharing the model numbers. I will stick to getting one for the specific model instead of risking getting one from say a 2017. Gracias!! ;)

@mfirestar - I think you are thinking of the older 2012 and older displays which had an independent cover glass from the LCD. The newer Retina and newer 4K/5k displays are laminated when the cover an LCD are unitized into one part. So there really isn’t any options. The Apple P/N for your system is 661-00200.
