Why does my dryer stop heating?

My GE dryer stops heating but will start again if unplugged for a few seconds then plugged back into the outlet.

Hi @anthony50477,

What is the model number of the dryer?

Sounds like a bad thermal cutout.

Think about it. It heats up, then stops, then starts again when it cools down.

It should do the same thing if you just shut it off rather than unplugging it.

It probably takes more than a few seconds.

If you must unplug it and it really just takes a few seconds, then I would suspect the control module.

Unplugging it is resetting it and it doesn't need to cool down.
