First off this series uses a strong adhesive to hold the battery cells so your skills and using a heat gun and the solvent to soften and break the bond without damaging the battery in the process.
The battery its self can't be distorted otherwise you weaken it, think of a layer cake which is using a stiff cake so if you press on one side the icing thins down.
Here as you lift the battery you can create the same effect thinning down the electrolyte between the sheets which can reduce its effectiveness or short it out. So if you pull on it to hard you will damage it.
When I replace the battery I always use two 3M Command strips (the industrial version) but the OTC product Command Large Refill Strips will also work 6 strips is what I would use here (2 per cell - 3 cells).
