Black screen and uncertain if problem extends to circuit board?
Hi,
Have a MBP 2017 that had a dead panel and cracks around the bezel near the hinge joints. Sometimes I can get it to throw picture onto an HDMI external display via adapter but very rarely. Not sure if battery is charging either and as such purchased an Apple external power adapter. Problem is there is no picture. On the external display was able to log in once onto the desktop and once get into recovery but since I have only been able to see picture a few times on the external display but upon restart nothing happens and not sure if the circuit board is faulty as well. When I press the power button for ten seconds and then again nothing happens short of being able to turn on caps lock button. Rarely the ESC key on the LED strip with light up. Wish I knew if there was a blind way to force external display from the led key strip if possible. I also purchased a replacement cover screen panel but have not taken it out of the box because at this point not sure if its worth going through the process to replace it if the circuit board is dying or dead. Not sure whats my next move? Think its easier to scrap and sell for parts.
Thanks

Finally figured out how to see a picture on the external display. Had to first press power for 10 seconds to shut it down, then press power and close lid to put it into clam shell mode and then immediately press CMD-OPT-P-R on the external keyboard. Now if I only had the password.
